I am 81yo living in Australia. I had a two wire pm fitted two weeks ago. Reading others experiences is very reassuring as its a little more uncomfortable than I expected. Getting to my right shoulder is impossible at the moment and its a pretty big lump where the implant is. I wonder how long it takes to feel "normal?

The New Normal

Welcome aboard! Everyone is different but two weeks is a short time, you are still healing of course. It will take time for the swelling to go down but you should start to feel better with each day. Usually after a few months you should feel more normal but some take less time, some take more. If something doesn't feel right, you should check with your doctor.

My pacemaker was installed in 1998 and I have not felt better. The mental part is the toughest.
Healing

Reaching across from left to right is a bit challenging with a new implant. Anything that squeezes the incision area is going to be painful for a while. It's really no different than any other surgery and the time to heal is dependent on how you heal.
I'm 82yrs and generally things like this take me about weeks for all the inflammation to get out of it. I remember reaching across to latch my seat belt using my left arm just a couple of days after getting mine. That let me know it would be good not to do that. However, as long as I kept my left arm in front of me I was out running around the desert (our outback) in my Jeep on some pretty rough roads without much trouble. The lump at the implant sight is pretty much permanent. My pacer is about 1/4" thick which gives some idea of its impact. Over a longer time like maybe a year my skin has fitted itself to the shape of it and isn't as noticeable.
If you go into the Gallery section of the forum and log onto ElectricFrank you will find a photo of me showing the pacemaker. Ignore the one one with the dial on it. That was a joke.
