Hi I had water retention before i got my pacemaker and that was in 2005 I have never had it again since pacemaker I don't think the Pacemaker would be a cause to get it but the best thing to do would be talk to your Dr. Good Luck

I have been on Lasix for the last 8 years, and had a ICD placed 6 years ago. I still have water retention, and still am taking lasix. I agree with mytrose43, I really don't think a pcemaker would cause water retention...check with your Dr.

edema

Years before receiving my pacemaker - mostly in the summer - I would sometimes get edema in my ankles. Nothing significant, just puffy ankles.

Since receiving my pacemaker (2004) the edema in my left calf, ankle, & foot is almost constant and sometimes down right uncomfortable. I just saw my new EP this week and asked him about it. He didn't have an answer.

I am on 12.5mgs of Hydrochlorothiazide which helps a bit and would like to "up" the dose (which I discussed with my family doctor who prescribed it) but it drops my already too low blood pressure making me more dizzy than I already am. So what I may do is take the 2nd dose at night when I'm already in bed...so what if I get dizzy in bed, right?

Right now I'm taking it in the morning. However, now that I'm in that lovely stage of my life called MENOPAUSE - both the Estrogel & the Progestrone are causing fluid retention big time!!!!!. So much so, that last month I gained 10 pounds in 10 days, but as soon as I was finished with the Progesterone (I only take it from day 15-25) the fluid from my ankles did come off.

So, now I partially know why I get fluid retention thanks to this HRT (hormone replacement therapy) but I never did get an answer to why I had some edema to begin with. It's like no one wants to answer that question.

LOL...one doctor told me to wear compression stalkings. I responded: "why? ... it will only force the fluid retention up to my thighs."

Yup, practicing medicine is just that -- practicing.
