So, I am getting back into jogging..

as I told you previously. Between some Sciatica issues that I have had and the recent AV block.. it has been a year since I have been able to jog... Now that I have been implanted... I am back in business! But, I am basically starting over from scratch which I am finding out the hard way lately... I have never realized how hard jogging is as I have done it for years!

Anyway, if anyone needs a little help, there is a cool little "app" for the Iphone (and maybe others) called 0 to 5K that I have found to be very helpful. Yeah, I could do it on my own, but this makes progression so much easier than looking at a watch or keeping track of distances for intervals, etc.. This "app" does all that for you.. and it is FREE!

Just type "0 to 5k" on your Iphone and download it.. Give it a try!

Running

Hi!

Thanks for the info. I never take my phone with me when running, though, so I prefer a Polar heart rate monitor. Actually purchased a new one yesterday, a FT7, and it can give you a summary report after each training which you could even download to your computer (if you buy a connector). Nice feature.

I started running in the middle of September. Read lots of information for beginners before, but then decided to do it my way. I started out with 3 minutes walking, 3 minutes running, and basically over time increased the running intervals while shortening the walking intervals. I now manage to run up to 25 minutes without pausing.

With a heart block you do not need the pacer's rate response feature, do you? Well, I do, and that makes running even more difficult for a beginner. I already found out that I will not be able to increase speed much as I'm reaching my upper limit already when running slowly. We have exhausted all rate response options, so I guess I'll just keep on running slowly, but maybe for a longer period of time; doing 30 minutes at the moment.

Good luck to you, hope you'll be seeing progress soon!

About the couch, lol!

Frank, The app tries hard to get you off the couch... I suppose you could just listen to it for the couch :-)

@Inga, no I don't need the rate response as my SA node is healthy. I am already beginning to find this program too easy...at the moment, but, I wanted to start out slow to avoid injuries between sciatica and / or shin splints. I had sciatica before as I have said, I don't want to go there again. Pretty sure I got it from doing too much.. So, I am playing it easy at least for the Winter.

What do you do for them?

I'd like to compare your method w/ mine.

I have always had good luck wrapping them loosely with an ace bandage.. I wrap it around the foot and ankle then up around the calf. Why it helps I don't know, but it works for me...

You know you're wired when...

You can take a lickin’ and keep on tickin’.

Just because you have a device doesn't mean you are damaged goods and can't do anything worthwhile and have to lie down and die. In fact, you're better and stronger. You're bionic!
