I am so frustrated. So last week I went to my Cardio dr who said he was going to refer me to a EP because I keep getting SVT episodes and he felt it was time for an ablation. I went to the EP yesterday and basically had to beg him to do the ablation. The meds I am on (metoprolol and Flecainide) make me feel like a zombie. I was almost in tears before he finally agreed. I told him I was referred to have this taken care of and how upset I was that he was refusing. He even had the nerve to say that he didn't even think I should have had a pacemaker implanted in the first place. Ummmm, hello stupid, I was having episodes of my heart beating in the 20's which made me pass out for the past 15+ years.
He was just so egotistical it had me furious. So after reluctantly agreeing to help me and scheduling it for this Tuesday, I called my Cardio and told him everything. Normally I wouldn't do that but I was so upset that I had to be practically crying in order for the EP to agree to the ablation. I have 5 kids, a job and am going back to school to finish my medic course and can't without the procedure because even walking from my bed to the kitchen makes my heart race in the 180's. Anyway, my dr agreed that he just has a ego problem but is one of the best ablation doctors around so even though he upset me, I should still have faith in him. I love my cardio dr. LOL
I told him that I will not go to the EP for the follow-up, that I wanted to go to him and he agreed that was fine. But he said to wait until after the ablation to let them know or they will cancel the procedure.
I hope this works.
Oh and the EP said that I would need a pacemaker after the procedure, well duh, I already have one. that tells me he didn't look at my chart before walking in to talk to me.

Thank you so much for your input. I called another EP affiliated with a different hospital all together to have a 2nd opinion later today. I will let you know how it goes.
OMG, I am so sorry you went through the things you did and I am so glad you made it to be able to post.
You know you're wired when...
You play MP3 files on your pacer.

At age 20, I will be getting a pacemaker in few weeks along with an SA node ablation. This opportunity may change a five year prognosis into a normal life span! I look forward to being a little old lady with a wicked cane!
Sorry, but if

Sorry, but if this yo-yo is that much of an arrogant egotistical bastard, I wouldn't let him take out my trash, let alone do something life threatening. If he didn't read your chart before having the conversation with you, what's to say he won't read your chart before messing around with your heart?
I've heard the "best in the area" speech before. I feel it's a way of deflecting the arrogant egotistical bastard complaint. Yeah, the guy may be good when he's on his game, but if he isn't he will screw up your life and have to be sued before he will admit error. Even then he won't admit he's done anything wrong.
With all these medical problems you have to feel good about the doctor and the procedure. If it doesn't feel right, don't proceed. Call the bastard's office, tell him thanks but no thanks. Then find someone who cares.
We read posts on this forum all the time where the doctor has aggressively gone after a problem. The person is left bigger problems with no chance of getting a fix. Believe me when I say I don't want to be in that situation.
My EP has told me I'm not ready for an ablation. His main objection is that they could do irreparable damage to my heart and he wants to hold off until I'm at the no other choice decision. Fortunately that's a ways off.
I passed out on the trail. Had a busted rib, collapsed lung, two cracked ribs. Died in the ambulance. Died in the ER. Had a temporary pacemaker implanted. They waited four days to see if I would live. Then implanted my permanent pacemaker. Was in a six day coma while all this happened. There was irreparable damage from everything that happened but it was all done under an emergency situation. If they hadn't done what they did, I wouldn't be able to reply to your post. So I personally feel I'm lucky. Medical people with whom I've talked tell me I don't know how lucky I am and I believe them.
Try not to get into an emergency situation.
