I had a pacemaker implanted 5 years ago. I suffer the last year of chronotropic incompetence. Is my pacemaker responsable for this and what can I do about it?
Thanks,

fine tuning

I've had a St Judes, 4 of them actually, since 1993 and I have CI. It's not my main problem but it shows up and causes problems occasionally.
Fine tuning can make all the difference in how we feel! The settings they start us with are generally for sedentary patients. They prefer to make the adjustments in small increments so it can take a few tries to get it just right. For me it is the difference between feeling like I'll pass out 5 min into a workout vs going full speed ahead for an hour.
A great technician is worth his weight in gold! Glad to hear yours is working with you, so many of them get frustrated and tell us we're as good as we're going to get. Mine got stumped once, between him and my dr and twice on the treadmill they still couldn't figure out how to fix it so they sent all my records to the engineers at St Judes who developed my pm. They made me a case study, had a powwow and a few days later sent back the new settings. I love my dr and rep!
Hoping you are back to 100% soon!
Thanks

Thanks for all.
It gives me hope that fine tuning can feel me better than how I felt last year. I thought that only a Boston scientific pacemaker (Look at: www.chronotropic-incompetence.eu) could give an solution for avoiding C.I.

not likely

It's not likely the pm is the cause but there's no reason why the pm can't be programmed to fix it. Have they adjusted your settings? That's the first thing I'd ask.

I just want to share about the quality of life after my pacemaker, and hopefully increase awareness that lifestyles do not have to be drastically modified just because we are pacemaker recipients.

Thanks for the reply I thought that only Boston Scientific pacemakers can treat C.I. I have a Sintron pacemaker and I am finetuning my pacemaker with my pacemaker specialist. It is amazing how important finetuning is. I feel much better now. My C.I is still present but I am optimistic about further finetuning. Sporting is going better now and I feel less dizzy the day after sporting.
