Heartbless

Hello PM fellows.

Can anyone advise me if a common low setting of 60 is a good place to be? What is recommended for the high - 140???

I am seeing my Cardio next week (6 weeks since PM inserted) and this will be my first "tweek" as my PM was left at factory settings.  It will be wonderful to have this feeling of pressure in my head gone for good!!!

Many thanks.
Jen.

It depends why you have it and what your needs are. 60 and 140 are common settings. Usually the upper rate is adjusted if you have problems exercising and your rate doesn't go up enough. Lower rate they go by how you feel, or if you have av block it's irrelevant. I wouldn't ask for particular settings at this point, tell them how you feel and let them decide. Also, ask for a copy of the report before and after so you can keep a record.

If 60 is a good number for you then that's what it should be. Better to be there than set too low and make you fell awful or set high and not be able to function there also. Depends why you have the PM/ Sinus Brady or Sick sinus Syndrom? Trust me, a low HR ain't funny! Mine was 29 when caught! My LOW set point has ALWAYS been 60bpm (and has alway worked fine for me (20 years) and the high set is 135 (never been able to reach it), and the best I can do is 115 on either the tread mill or the stationary bike (man I hate that thing). Anyway, I work out everyday and I know I feel better for it. Last time my heart was checked out they had to chemically make my HR get to the low set point!
If it doen't feel right just tell the doc and have him feel around until the majic number is reached!

Effect of high rate

The high rate is just a limit. At 82 yrs my actual upper heart rate is around 135-140. I have my upper rate set to 150 just to keep in out of the picture. It could be set to 180 and wouldn't make any difference.
