I am 50 year old guy with 5 young kids, I had my PM put in five months ago. Recently I have had alot of stress and I have been waking up earily with severe blood pressure spikes like 169/116. I have been taken nitro to bring it down. I also take BP medications twice a day along with an array of other heart and anti stroke medications. I have bradycardia and have had many mini strokes along with a severe one this year.
During the day my pacemaker is working overtime and I actually feel it when it paces. I have no energy and rest all the time. I can not walk like I used to and just feel this is the way life is. When I go out shopping I can only last a couple of hours with intermitting rest stops. Love to here your feed back.

I have type 2 Diabetes, two Blockages, two leaking valves and lifoma, On July 13, 2012 had a massive stroke and then on July 16, I had a metronic dual chamber pacemaker put in. I have two - three fatty tumors that need to be removed that are surpressing the coradic arteries. It's alot on my plate and I am not out of the woods yet. I take one day at a time.
By the way doctors all suck and they think they know it all. I love when they tell you how you feel and when they say this will not hurt. Lets try some of these things on them. For the holidays I decided to take a medical vacation.
I went to the doctor yesterday and they doubled my preasure pills and the beta blockers dosage, Today I woke up with my preasure at 169/109 today. Sometimes I don't think they know what they are doing. I find that the nitro brings the pressure right down to normal.
I like this club because you are real people with real problems and you know what we live with. Since when can a doctor tell us what we feel from a text book.
Love your feed back, your a great bunch of heros and surviors. I remain Greg

In fact after the final "tweaks" of my pacemaker programming at the one year check up it is working so well that I forget I have it.
Settings

As you can see from numerous postings on this site the getting the correct settings are a huge part of "individualising "the PM for your needs.
Is your rate response on? - I felt better when mine was swithched off. Other setting changes that helped:
Changing the interval it took for my ventricular lead to pace - it just waits a few m/s longer to see if your V will pace itsself - and mine did and made a huge difference.
Taking down my pacing to 55bpm, more in my normal rnge for sleep.. Once 55 or therabouts is reached the PM kicks in and take it back up to 60. Sleep much better now.
I'm not saying these are for you, you need to takl to the tech/EP about how you are feeling and see if you cant tweak the PM for your own comfort and well-being.
Have fun with the 5 little ones, mabe take turns to spend time with each for a while till you feel better.
This can be a frustrating phase so good luck and keep asking specific questions. Ther are great people on this site who know far more than I. You'll get your answers
