Battery replacement
My ICD is implanted under my muscle and has been there since 2007. I am due a box change on Tuesday and am somewhat concerned as to how I will feel afterwards. The initial implantation caused considerable pain as my muscle had been poked and prodded considerably. Can anyone tell me what to expect? Thank you.

Tracey thanks for this. I would indeed say the pain level was around 9 and the medication gave me roughly 2 hours relief. It is the pain I am dreading more than anything. :-(
second ICD

Hi! On my second ICD since 2004 heart virus. The second inplantation was much easier. One reason is the leads are already in place unless there is a problem or additional lead needed or other problem. Also, we are familiar with what is to come and have experience with how to take care of ourselves. My second device adjusted into its space much sooner and is much more comfortable. Do stay alert for signs of infection. Will say a prayer for you Tuesday morning. Hopeful Heart

They gave me prescrips for pain meds each time but I never even filled them on any of my replacements (on #4 now). Tylenol was plenty, and only just at night after the first few days. I do, however, have a pretty high tolerance for pain (or so I've been told, really I just hate drugs because I've had so many allergic reactions)

I am on DF number 5 and each new one was smaller and "smarter" than the last making the fit easier..........Laben

Hi I'm on number two also. Had it put in on thursday, piece of cake compared to first time. Much easier , less bruising and less pain.

Thank you for your posts! Except for a little muscle tearing my procedure went well! I have a small degree of pain which is completely manageable, although sleeping is a bit of a problem. I was fortunate to be first on the theatre list and having had my pacing check in the afternoon, was discharged from hospital last night. All in all a happy bunny! Fuzzytop.

Mine is buried deep, too. If the first placement was a 10 for pain, replacement was a 5 and it healed a lot faster than the first time. Scar tissue builds up around it so it's a lot tougher now.
