How Long before you get better

June 13th I go my Dfib/Pacemaker. After 10 days I got my first exam they said my PM went of 85 times. I never felt anything.
After awhile I got used to it and the meds. Well. Aug. 10th I was in the hospital for something else. The day I was to be released I could not catch my breath and lo & behold my defib didn't work.
I went to the CCU for the next week. My Dr. and the Medtronics Rep came the Rep stated the PM worked it was installed incorretly. Meanwhile I had gone thru hell that one week. Changing meds and finally they told me that they fixed it and tested it. When I saw the end report they wrote defective PM. Meanwhile I am trying to find out exactly what went wrong with the unit and exactly how it was repaired. I can not seem to get an answer. I have not had a good day since. Thanks

There is only one way to get an answer. You need to be willing to be aggressive and DEMAND the information. In the US you have a right to a copy of your medical records. Go the the records department of your hospital and request complete copies of everything including OR notes. You may find some services were contracted and you need to request records directly from them in writing.

When my wife experienced a stroke in 1999 I was able to get detailed records of everything, including hospital pharmacy, radiology, OR, surgeon, and even the ambulance. I just had to be insistent.

I wonder if...

...the PM WAS defective. At one point the Rep said it was good, but installed incorrectly. That sounds more realistic than a bad PM.

Further, I wonder what they can do to repair a PM? It's all integrated circuits & hermetically sealed in its can. Who can open the can, repair it & reseal the can?

Would they even want to do that?

I don't think you will get an answer because it is a case of someone's big sitting muscles being covered.

You know you're wired when...

You have a T-shirt that reads “Wired4Sound”.
