Gym day

Today was my first day that I have went to they gym since having my pacer put in back in july, I think it went pretty good for the most part but here is my question...I think my high rate on pacer is 130 and when my heart rate got up to that point and tried to go higher I got some pain and discomfort around the pacemaker area. Should I have my dr raise the rate or leave it where its at?

maxing out

First, why did you get the pm? Depending why you have the pm, upper limit may not even be an issue.

When you max out, you shouldn't feel anything at the pm itself, you're more likely to feel suddenly overtired, dizzy, things like that. My guess is you were pulling scar tissue if you felt it at the box. It helps to get back to activity gradually, don't jump in all at once. Try icing it, that may help the discomfort go away.

If one particular thing always irritates it, you might want to modify or skip it. I skip inverted rows (lay back, grab rings and pull yourself up like an upside down push up). Every time I do those, I ache for 3 days so I do push presses instead to work those muscles. You aren't going to damage it, but no reason to irritate it either.

Good job getting back to the gym! Keep at it.

I got the PM because I had IST and my first 2 ablations were unsuccessful so on the third they went agressive and afterwards my heart rate went to 30-40 so had to put the PM in. The pain/discomfort I had wasn't due to pulling scar tissue, I was doing treadmill and elipticals, it was after my heart rate went up was when I felt it. It feels fine now but did feel a little dizzy at the time.

Sounds like your Wenkebaching. Pain at the site is unexplained by this but dizzyness at upper rate is usually because of upper rate behavior like Wenke. If you and your doc think you can handle it, crank up the RR. Just tell them whats going on, they can make a better clinical decision based on your whole picture than we can.

As I've posted before (sorry for redundancy guys) to calculate a generic appropriate upper rate

220-Your Age. Multipied by 80%. That will get you in the ballpark of where your supposed to be set.

I just want to share about the quality of life after my pacemaker, and hopefully increase awareness that lifestyles do not have to be drastically modified just because we are pacemaker recipients.
