My mother had a pacemaker put in June of 2011. The site became infected and she had to have it removed and placed on the opposite side. The original site is still infected. She has seen wound care specialists, infectious disease dr, and plastic surgeon. She recently had surgery to remove scar tissue however it is again infected. Dr now wants to send her to a cardiovascular surgeon. Has anyone else had this kind of problem? My mom lives in Tarpon Springs Fl. Any recommendations for good cardiovascular surgeon? Thanks Boggus

Honey

My great grand father and grandfather were both Gp's and their recipe for wound care for wounds that would not heal due to poor circulation and ulcers was to make a paste of honey and granulated sugar and put it on the wound. Honey is hydrophillic and may cause more seepage the first few days but it is also antibiotic so the infection heals...the sugar is irritatating enough to cause more rapid granulation. So the site heals quicker.
My friend, a diabetic, who got a wound infection after his circumcision at age 52. was facing the amputaion of his penis,so when I suggested the honey paste he figure he had nothing to lose by trying my suggestion and everything to lose if he went with the doctors treatment. The doctor was very red faced when he came back in 2 weeks later with a tiny scab where an open oozing wound had been. He went to his grave several years later with all of the major equipment he arrived with.

What about a Hyperbaric chamber? I know it can help heal wounds. Not sure about infections. However, I am sure infections do not like oxygen.
Sonya - I'm new here :)
I also have Lyme disease and am working on the natural stuff as 3 years of antibiotics did not cure me.
Thanks

Well, that was an interesting story. One I shared with my mom. She sees a surgeon on Mon. They have determined the infection is in the pocket where her old pacemaker use to be. Thanks so much for you input. Take, Boggus

I'm very sorry about your mom's problem. Since the things she's doing aren't working, here are a few natural suggestions. I always tell my docs what I'm doing, so make sure you check in with them on anything she does.
Everything she puts in her mouth either helps or hurts the infection. Look up an anti-inflammatory diet on the web and have her cut out sugar because sugar feeds infections. I cured my own Lyme disease after doctors failed by just doing natural things. Getting rid of sugar is the first thing to do. Make sure her diet has lots of garlic in it. Garlic is anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and anti-viral. Turmeric is an anti-inflammatory, get from Vitamin Shoppe and take 2 three times a day. Also, while I've never tried it, honey is supposed to heal wounds(topically). Read up on these before you do anything.
I suggest Dr. John Norris in Clearwater. He did my pacemaker implant. I always develop keloids, but my PM site looks great--he did a great job! He's an electrophysiologist, so I don't know if it's a fit for what you need, but I'd talk to Margaret in his office to see if he can help you.
Good luck!
