OMINOUS?

After reading everything I CAN find about pacemakers. They are given to Everyone with the tiniest reason, heatstroke, heart problems in your family history, etc even just the fact that no one was allowed to speak about thier particular reason for recieving the implant in the cardio icu is more than ominous. With the implant laws about everyone being 'chipped' soon... my husband and father to my children can return home only after his implant is removed. Any consultation reveals that he can only have the leads cut but, not the box itself removed! How horrible to be threatened into something and lose your family. I have found there are MANY of us likeminded people who will not have this 'chip' in thier household. YES, I KNOW YOU HEAR ME!

Welcome to the PM Club. I am very sorry about the way you think. I completely don't agree with you. I can also tell you they don't just give pacemakers or ICD's just out to anyone. You need a reason beyond a family history. You need a good reason and a cause to have one.
Why are you wanting your husband to not have his pacemaker anymore? Your post is confusing to me. A pacemaker has saved many of our lives on this site. I am younger and extremely thankful for my pm.
There is no chip in the pacer that can track you or whatever you're talking about. A pacemaker is a device only to monitor your heart and place it into the correct beat needed.
There are many people who hardly ever need there pacemaker but have to have a beat occasionally. Your husband's life could be saved by having that pacemaker.

WTF

Terrance,

I have no idea what you are talking about- you are describing a dystopian paranoid fantasy like "Minority Report."

Either you are joking or you need serious counseling.

Not True

You only have to read through the postings on this site to find what a positive thing a pacemaker is.

Certainly the threat is not having a pm if one is needed

Are you a genuine "poster" is my question because what you have read just isn't true.

Say What

You are correct about many people getting pacemakers that do not need them. There are several reasons for that. True some dr see them as "cash cows." Some Drs misinterpret the test results they think call far a PM. Not all heart problems are permanent. One may show up that indicates treatment with a PM is called for only to have the problem correct itself at some point in time after the PM is implanted. However, last but not least, the fact remains there are lots of people alive today because a PM was available help their ailing heart.

But I am puzzled about what is wrong with having this "chip" in someone's household.

I have to agree with the others. I do believe my CRT-P has saved my life and the lives of many others. I do agree that there may be doctors out there who experiment by putting in a PM/ICD/CRT, etc., but I really hope those are few and far between.

Depending on your husband's heart issues, and what type of device he has, there is most likely a good reason it was put in. I really hope so anyway.

They waited and would not do my AV Node ablation and CRT/P(D) until I was in deep, deep "you know what." I was in severe stages of cardiomyopathy and heart failure, and making arrangements to get on the heart transplant list. For a super happy, active person, this was not in my plans.

When I was told it's this surgery/procedure or you won't be here in 3 months (by several cardio docs), I went for it. I'm 8 weeks post PM and feel absolutely WONDERFUL! I am doing more than I've been able to do in YEARS! I am so grateful for this. Did it fix all of my heart problems, no... but I knew that going into it.

Again, I do agree that there are probably some out there who were given PM's that maybe didn't need them, and again, I hope to God, those are few and far between.

If the government is planning on chipping all of us to follow our every move, I say have at it. They are going to get really bored watching me. LOL! Hey, it's not to say thoughts like that haven't crossed my mind with other things though, so I'm give you points for thinking up that possibility.

In all seriousness, I do hope you are able to look at this a little differently, and if your husband was one who received a PM who didn't need one, that you are able to receive compensation for that, and begin the forgiveness and healing process.

We all do wish you the best in this, and I'm so sorry your experience has not been a positive one. Please keep us posted on how things are going. We really do care. I wish we knew more of your husband's health history and reasons for his PM and removal of leads. This would help us all support you better.

I had a pacemaker when I was 11. I never once thought I wasn't a 'normal kid' nor was I ever treated differently because of it. I could do everything all my friends were doing; I just happened to have a battery attached to my heart to help it work.
