ugly scar

Hi: I took my pressure bandage off yesterday from my pacemaker replacement surgery I had this past tuesday and I had quite a surprise. 2 incisions and one puncture with stitches on top of the pacemaker. It is all healed well but what a messy mess. I can only think they had trouble either taking out the old one or stuffing in the new one. Has anyone else had this kind of experience? thank you muchRMGD

you lost a fight w/ an angry cat that still had its front claws.
That's some -photo you posted.

Would you mind posting one of it AFTER the bandage was removed? Your description sounds rather dramatic & Unique - to say the least.

I really liked your description of trhe insertion of the new one - "Stuffing it in." Good choice of words.

How does it feel today?

I was so happy to get the shrink wrap bandage off . Ill try to have my son take a picture when he gets home. It just doesnt look like other peoples pictures i week post op.And I went to the local Tim Hortons this morning for coffee and a donut and the girl waiting on me had a sick look on her face when she saw my scar. Im sure she didnt know it was a pacemaker . RMGD

RMGD: You took that thing out in public in a Bikini bathing suit in the dead of arctic winter in Lockport, NY. Are you crazy?

This scar must be unique.

Can't wait to see it.

Sewing Machine

Did you hear a big sewing machine running during your surgery?

Just keep the old saying in mind "Cheer up it could be worse. I cheered up and sure enough it got worse".

I just woke up and saw the picture my son posted last night. Yikes. My 23 year old GQ type guy said I needed the sunglasses because I looked too scarrey without them. Then I realized I was standing in front of his bookcase with a scull on the shelf. not a good message. Now today Im taking my 90 something mom to lunch in buffalo lets see how she likes my scarrs ha ha ha RMGD

Not easy

I imagine it's not easy to Dig Out an established pacemaker. Your body builds up all sorts of tissue around it to keep it stable. Sorry you had such a bad experience and hope it heals quickly.

That's a keeper!!!

Stephen Crane wrote a novel about that scar a few yrs ago - called it "The Red Badge of Courage."

That's one to be proud of.

Lunch in Buffalo, NY in early Dec & you are going to wear something that shows your scar?

Are you part Eskimo on a vacation in the southland? I can see it now - RMGD & Helen Mirren lounging on the beach along the shores of the Niagra River, just below Niagra Falls - both decked out in fur-lined bikinis.

I thought by now you Buffaloans would be out hunting seals & walri (or is it walruses?) on the pack ice.

Give it a matter of months & it will be just a few inches of white lines that no one notices.

Hope that it is over being painful.

Thank you for sharing that with us. I know it has not been a pleasant experience.

new scar

by daisy41763@yahoo.com - 2012-12-04 03:12:55

Okay! I'm next. I have teri strips covering mine right now.
its been five days since my replacement surgery. Had my first shower today too all week.,my hair was so gross. lol..
I hope my scar don't look butchered. lol. My first one looked like a single line that was glued together, no external stitches were visible. I know this one has stitches I felt them at the end of the procedure.

thanks everyone

Im so happy to be a member of this club . the people closest to me really dont understand the life with a pacemaker. This last week has been rough and Im so happy to have had all of you on board. Loved the great dark humor Electric Frank. Always intelligent and entertaining donr. Thanks tracey E for the early support and to daisy41763 I pray your scars dont look or feel anything like mine. I did take my mother to The Eagle house in williamsville new york yesterday and she told me to wear things that cover it up. She said is it always going to be that ugly. Oh well. she was being honest. and donr it was 60 degrees here yesterday. but Im sure snow will make its appearance later this week. We only had 32 inches of snow last winter where I live near lake ontario but the normal is over 100 inches . thanks again everyone RMGD

Yesterday I moved to a new place in my mind and realized how bad I felt 'before' and the difference my pacemaker has made.
