Medtronic Consulta "Observations"

During last weeks PM download, a couple things -----------The Quick Look II Report states: (In the past 6 mos) AT/AF events:0 -- VT event: 1 - lasting 1 sec. Now a couple items that weren't addressed to me------------ "Observations:" --"Possible fluid accumulation exceeded OptiVol Threshold, 24-Sept - 24 Oct 2013" and "LV Capture Management determined that threshold increased by 1.125V from 28-Oct to 29-Oct. Medtronic site states not to read too much into these #'s --they are not a substitute for an in clinic exam. Next download will be mid Feb, 2014 in clinic (I was expecting a normal "remote" D/L.) Also, I have a Doppler scan next week to compare with one year ago. Cardiologist-not an EP - made no comment on the "fluid accumulation" info. Can anyone share their 2 cents on these bits of information? The "fluid accumulation" remark has my attention. I thought fluid buildup occurs in the pleura surrounding the lungs --- how can a PM detect that?

Thanks!

Heart failure monitoring

Hi Dave!

I think this is a unique Medtronic feature in some of its CRT devices. Fluid monitoring helps to detect heart failure as a common symptom of heart failure is fluid buildup in the lungs. You find an explanation of how it works at:

Best wishes
