Any Ideas re: Palpitations & Flutterings

Hi:

It has been over 4 months since I received the pacemaker and I've had Palpitation & Fluttering sensations much of that time, I informed my cardiologist & his associate. Since May, I've now had an Xray to see if any abnormal placement occurred, worn a Holter monitor and the ECG didn't indicate any reason why this is happening. Nothing wrong was found. (Which is good)

But there is Discomfort, on & off, often when I am walking or after eating, sometimes when retiring to bed. Usually not when I'm relatively still.

My Cardiologist today advised that I increase my dosage of Metoprolol from 25mg once a day to twice.& adjusted my Micardis prescription so that it will no longer include a diuretic. And advised me to contact him again in 2 weeks.

Would anyone who has had a similar experience be willing to share how it could be resolved. Any ideas or comments are welcome.

And a big thank you to all who post & respond at this website.

Blessings to all,

I had a pacemaker about 2 and a half months now. I also
have fluttering and palpitations. Wore the Halter monitor as well. I take Atenenol 25mg if it gets to bothersome.
I have talked to my cardiologist about it but he seems
unconcerned. He says the Halter monitor didn't show any problems ??? I seem to be the only one concerned
about it ??

my first pm was implanted in March 2010 for heart block. for about 3 months I had thousands of PCPs (harmless but very annoying ectopic beats). My doc prescribed a beta blocker which made me depressed. I read a lot of post hear sharing about Magnesium helping. It did and continues to knock the PCPs down. Might help you?

palpitations and flutterings

I have had my pm for 14 months and yes I still experience the above. pm showed something so I had a second ablation but after a while it all started up again but this time nothing shows up so no one is concerned. I find it all a nuisance as it also gives me angina so I take the GTN spray when necessary also on Metoprolol 25 mgs twice a day.
I think quite a lot of people experience this problem. Arthur has said magnesium helps. How much I wonder and how often? Does it really help?

When they do a hollter monitor if it shows nothing yr DR may not be concerned. There are all kinds of heart
rhythms some are benign others are more concerning. If you are uncomfortable I would be persistent. Perhaps you can wear the holter for a few days and see if you have an episode of discomfort. If the cardio sees the event And he feels it's not a concern you will feel better or you'll go for another opinion.

Thanks to everyone for responding.

I appreciate your sharing of your experience. About Magnesium - I have been taking it for several months. Usually about 400 mg of the oxide chelate as a supplement. (Maybe not enough. ?) And this week I switched to a new brand (of magnesium citrate, chelated) which is supposed to be better absorbed. I will focus more on natural sources. Also, I have been using Hawaiian Spirulina which is rich in minerals and is said to contain a natural form of 'SuperOxide Dismutase', (S.O.D.) ,which some people claim is benficial for arrhythmias.

But nothing has helped, yet. If something helps diminish my discomfort, it will be reported here.

Thanks for mentioning GTN Spray, I'll check on it.

Another issue: the Dr. said the PM might not be the cause. But I find myself wondering 'how can it not be related to the PM, these daily sensations were never experienced before getting the PM ?

Best Wishes to All

Flutterings!

Hi,
I had those too and after tons of checks that all came back ok, they eventually found that my atrial lead was fractured (it was 10 years old) and wasn't working properly. It was replaced and after that all was back to normal.
