Post op pain

Just had my implant two days ago and was wondering what others experiences have been regarding post operation pain. The area around the implant is very bruised and the area is very sore, uncomfortable and stiff. The pain does dissipate with pain killers, but I am trying to keep medication to a minimum.
The PM is working fine and I was able to go for a nice walk yesterday and felt really good whilst doing so, but the pain is a bit of a worry.
Thanks
Bermard

Sounds Normal

by bjbumblebee - 2012-04-27 07:04:25

I am on my 5th PM (I believe, I'm loosing count!!) Anyway, very normal for that area to be tender! In fact when you get behind the driver's seat and strap that seatbelt on, hope your clothing has some padding as it will be tender!! That's why they have given you pain killers. It will last for probably a couple weeks or so. And then get itchy as it heals! But as long as you feel good and you do not have a fever or there is no swelling then all should be fine.

Take care!

Bonnie

It will hurt for a while.

Mine hurts too (I'm on day 6), but is getting better. I have a lot of swelling and bruising too. My cardiologist was concerned about clots because it is so hard and swollen, so they did an ultrasound yesterday to check it out. All is well, just lots of blood in there (I'm on Coumadin).

It took me about 5 days for it to quit hurting really bad. The tightness and stiffness is still there (everyone on this site refers to it as a third boob when they speak of their own), and yes, there is still pain. Hang in there. It will get better each and every day.

Like Bonnie said, watch for increased swelling or any sign of a fever. If that happens call your doctor as soon as possible.

Good luck!

Had my PM put in 7 wks ago and I to had pain with mine for several days but it does go away. As mentioned above you might want to put something between you and the seatbelt strap so it does not rub.

I'm left handed and had my PM put in on the right side so no seatbelt irratation. But in a right handed world this to can be complicated.

Best of luck

Thanks for all your encouraging comments. Much appreciated. On the first day out, I felt rather good and went on a nice long walk. Even worked up a bit of a sweat which showed the PM was doing its thing.
Then came Saturday. OK at first, even the shoulder pain eased a bit. But then came incredible abdomen pain, breathlessness, sweat. So I was rushed off to hospital in an ambulance and during the ride I was given a good dose of morphine. I can tell you that morphine gets rid of the shoulder pain!
It was diagnosed that I had an inflamed pancreas. Spent two horrible nights in hospital and was discharged this afternoon (Australia time), Tests now show me to be OK, but I cannot help think that the drugs used in the PM procedure may be linked to the pancreas event, as I have never had any such or related issue before.
I would be interested to know if anyone else has had any thing similar happen to them.
Once gain, thanks for your support,
Bernard

pain faded after 4 days

by JustKrs - 2012-05-05 09:05:21

I'm on day 6 myself.

I was on norco (aka vicodin) days 1 through 4. Day 5 i only needed it at night. And I've yet to take anything for pain today on day 6.

I still find (maybe just because im a woman 42C and therefore have chest tissue pulling on the incision site) that its the least painful if i lay flat on my back (just like the position everything was when they made the incision in the first place)

But thing that's gotten me more than the pain is the exhaustion. I've had very little energy all week and mostly slept. This surprised me a lot as a 33 year old having this put in for syncope.. my heart is healthy so the exhaustion from what seems like a minor procedure was surprising to me.
