Hi,
Since I use this site before the implantation I feel some obligation to share info with you.
- I am 58 years old and as a result of SSS I had to go through this process.
- I head it in HKG (St. Paul Hospital) all went very smooth.
- The operation took about an hour, I was awake and talk with the DR.
- PM was set to give a pulse if beat reate go below 45/Min (I was doing lot of sport so my pace is slow). While monitoring the display of my ECG (they have me connected to this about 30 hours after the operation) i saw sometimes that the PM give pulse at higher than 45, I did not understand this, both DR and Medtronic representative said "this is noise in recording". I walked 3 hour after the operation and has no pains.
- I have a small bandage and the PM almost unvisable. I asked the DR to do it behind the muscle (I read it is less visible), he recomand not to do this since next opration might be more complicated, looking on me on the mirror it sems that he was right.
I felt a bit of throat pains but now almost gone. I intend resume jogging next week after suture will be removed next week.
Reading what other wrote in this site was very helpfull

How are you feeling?

I too am a newbie. I've had mine almost 2 weeks for SSS and Grateful Heart is right, it gets easier dealing with a foreign body in your body. It's been my experience that I went through a grieving period over having to have a pm and now have an energy I can't remember having in a very long time. Good luck and speedy recovery.
lower rate

It won't let you get lower than 45 but that doesn't mean it can't pace higher than that. Two ways this can happen aside from your heart simply going faster on its own. First. if your atria goes faster than that but the signal doesn't make it to the ventricles, it'll pace ventricle. Also, they hav a setting to help with SSS called rate response. It senses movement/activity and raises your rate for you if it doesn't go up on its own.
Had pacemaker put in on 11-09-12

The only problem I'm having is the pain in my left shoulder on my arm pit. Is this normal?

i am getting used to it. No pains and scar looks nice. DR said hold running so I just do walking (~5 km) and than climb to my home using the stairs (7 stories).
From time to time I still feel some strange feeling in my chest, I suspect that this is when the PM give pulses but I am not sure.
You know you're wired when...
You make store alarms beep.

You are on the road to recovery. Just don't push it too soon. Listen to your body but since you are a runner, I know you do. I too have SSS and LBBB. As for the "metal in my chest", it does get easier to accept it, especially when you see how much better your heart works now then it did before. Glad you found us!
Take care,
Grateful Heart
