Nose bleeds

Hello,

I just had a pacemaker installed on March 21st. Out of nowhere today, I got a gushing bloody nose. I called the doctor's office, and they said it was unrelated to the pacemaker.

Have any of you had this happen. Oh, yeah, I am not on any medications whatsoever.

Thanks, Marcie

Had a sudden gushing nose bleed incident once requiring ER and packing. It was due to unknown rise in blood pressure, very high. Since you state yours was a gushing nosebleed, please don't stop until you get a medical explanation. Take care. Hopeful Heart

Since I have no insurance (yes, had surgery with no insurance), I will just keep an eye on it for now. I got my nose to stop bleeding, and my blood pressure seems fine. Thanks!

Or it could be allergies . . .

Bear in mind that it can also be a sign of huge irritation in your nose as a result of allergies - which is what happened to my husband. We dashed off to the emergency room, thinking it could be a sign of impending stroke etc, but his blood pressure was fine. When it had dried up, the doc. checked his nasal passages and they were terribly irritated - right at the start of allergy season, and he'd churned up piles of dust and grit doing a spring clean-up.

I agree it can be a sign of something very, very serious - but it also may be something more manageable. Keep an eye on your blood pressure. Headaches can also be a sign of elevated blood pressure. If you can, ask your doctor to check your nose to see if it is inflamed. This is a very high pollen season, and it's possible it's the cause.

Stroke versus allergies

Thanks for the things to look into. I will read up on both of them. I have applied for PCIP, so I may have insurance on May 1st. I have been keeping an eye on my blood pressure, and it is just fine. I sure hope it is not a stroke. I'm only 47. I'm fairly healthy and feel fine, so I don't think that is what happened. I also didn't know there was anything wrong with my heart either, though.

Thanks again,

Marcie

I've seen many posts about people being concerned about exercise after having a device so thought I would let you know that yesterday I raced my first marathon since having my pacemaker fitted in fall 2004.
