Hi All,
I had the OP yesterday, I am now home, and now feeling very sore...
I had a lump removed from my neck about 5-6 inches away from my PM..All went very well, no problem with them using the Bipolar EC knife..This is now used for all ops with pacemakers in my hospital..
Glad I looked into it, with the help from Don..Doc wanted to turn it off!!..NO way I said, as I have complete heart block..Anyway not up to doc..we got it sorted..
So anyone waiting for op check with your doc.how / what they are going to do and use...
Best Len..

...Len. Sounds like you are a great sorter & had everything well in hand. Glad all went well for you.
Hope the UK Sunshine Ian mentioned is as pleasant as that we are experiencing here in North Georgia here in the US.
I did not realize that I was having a procedure performed today, also. Read the next few paragraphs for my saga in the OR this AM.
I just now got home from a 0700 endoscope exam of my stomach for polyps. Prior to the GI Dr. coming into the room, the anesthesia team was discussing whether or not he would use EC because of my PM. So I asked if they would put a ground plate on me & they said yes. Where? On your thigh.
I said That's fine. Why? Because that's far away from my PM & the current will not pass by the heart or PM. The anesthesiologist looked at me, somewhat bemused & says "I never though of it that way, but he's correct." Then he asks - "Anyone in here have a magnet handy? - like it was something everyone carries around in his pocket. No one had a handy magnet. Then the GI Dr. came in & said he planned on no EC, so everyone relaxed.
Meanwhile, we were digging around in my red bag that I always carry, groping for my last PM report, which I always have when going into surgery. the anesthesiologist was very happy that I had that w/ me.
Meanwhile, the ECG monitor was going berserk w/ PVC's & a couple Ventricular high rate runs - pacing all the way. The Anesthesiologist's assistant looked at the screen & was concerned that my PM allowed my HR to get that high. I had to explain to him that a PM only speeds things up, that otherwise it follows merrily along w/ whatever HR the Atria is running. Obviously it was running a bit fast at that point. Fortunately I have an appt w/ my Cardio's PA this afternoon, so I'll have her run a download & see if it recorded anything.
So, for first time readers, I'm an advocate for taking a cy of your latest PM report to any surgery. Now you see why I'm not crazy. This team was pleased that I had it. It did not bother the nurse one bit that she had to run out to the waiting room twice to get my bag from my dear, long-suffering wife, who right now is taking a well-deserved nap after a 0430 wake up call

Just thought it funny when she said that...Anyway the anaesthesiologist?? as you called him Don was way on the ball....Even gave me something to numb the pain afterwards, which he said he would do before I wake...I was on cloud 9 when I woke up, what a lovely feeling...A tad sore now though...And a little lighter...lol

It made a HUGE difference in my life. Once I got it, I was finally able to run, and ride my bike long distances.
What a way to lose weight !
