Staph Update

Hi guys, I got the medical report and thought I would relay it to you to see if you all could give me some advice, please!
This is Doc's Notes
"Beneath the external pocket was a very thick outer layer of scar tissue for the pocket. Within that was some yellowish fluid about 10cc. This was drained. The anterior pocket material was d brided as best as possible. I thought that we got the majority of it. The tie down sleeves were removed and there was some dissection towards the clavicle removing the scar tissue. Some of this scar tissue towards the clavicle seemed to be friable and it was cultured and a swab culture was also done. Specifically, both tissue sample of the pocket material and swab were sent to lab for culture. I felt most of the scar tissue was d brided and I cut away the tie down sleeves as they were not even sutured."

The cultures came back Staph. I was put on Keflex for 30 days. Went to doc on Fri. Still have infection another round of Cephalexin (Keflex) 1500 per day for 30 days. If this does not work talking about getting thoracic surgeon to take leads and pacer out, give IV antibiotics. I had total ablations in 2002 and was total pacemaker. But now this Doc says my heart is beating some on my own. That I might not feel good with it out. I was sitting there just in shock!

.. whilst silver gels may have some effect against Staph skin infections it sounds as though Kitten has a deep-seated staph infection in the PM pocket...she needs an IV antibiotic ! ... the only way to get to the site of the infection is via the bloodstream.

...just an observation. I'm surprised that your Dr didn't try to hit the infection hard with an IV antibiotic at the outset. Cephalexin , which is oral , is OK but doesn't give the immediate high blood levels that an injectable antibiotic would have given. Still what has been done has been done !

..I guess a next step could be to try IV antibiotics before ripping out the PM and leads but only your Drs know how much of a threat the infection is.

Best of luck
Ian

Just a suggestion here. I agree with the antibiotic injection but I have found that silver worrks great with killing staph! I have hd many instances where collateral silver has taken care of staph. There are a lot of great ones available, however my favorite choice is one put out by Natures Sunshine in a gel form (actually 24ppm). If you cannot find it let me know and I will hook you up. Just apply and keep covered with bandage (worked for me, my mother-in-law (skin graph) and a lot of people I know that had staph from bed sores while in hospital. Most liquids that you will find are only 10ppm (parts per million).
Just a thought!

Nothing to mess with

I agree with the suggestions of an IV antibiotic. With the chances of infection following the leads into a blood vessel it is nothing to mess around with. Since the doc has a culture they should be able to choose an effective antibiotic.

I would question removing the leads at this point since the infection seems to have spared the lead route. Removing the leads would just open a route into the vessel.

This is one of those cases where using some of the highly touted "scientific medicine" would be called for.
