Had a pacemaker installed Feb10, 2012. Since being released from the hospital on Feb 12, 2012 I’ve had a fever of 104 Feb 20 which went to normal by evening and another fever of 104 Feb 27 one week later. Today Feb 29 I woke up with 102. Each time I have had the fever, I had the chills and sweats, but by the end of the day everything goes back to normal, I advised the surgeon of my situation and his response was "theres a bug going around." My incision sight looks good, no swelling or redness. Any thoughts?

Bug going around

On this case the surgeon may be right. There seems to be something like that going around with all sorts of symptoms. A few weeks ago I woke up less than an hour after going to bed and from a deep sleep with the chills. I was on a trip in a hotel and didn't have my fever thermometer with me, but the bed where I was laying was very noticeably hot. I took a couple of aspirin and went back to bed. A few hours later I woke with the bed wet from sweating and the fever gone. I cycled through sore muscles, upset stomach, and times of elevated BP. I seem to be over now, but it sure lasted. I've since ran into several folks who have had similar symptoms. An interesting aside is that all but one of us had received a flu vaccination of the new potent type for seniors about 2 weeks before the onset. My thought is that the shot didn't directly cause the flu, but may have affected my immune system and made me more susceptible to an existing virus.

I mentioned that to my doc and his response was that there was no research showing he connection. I then ask him if there had been any research that showed results either way. At that point he felt it was time to leave the room.

I wasn't really self-conscious about it. I didn't even know I had one until around six or seven years old. I just thought I had a rock in my side.
