New to the forum surgery ?

Hello, I am new here. I have a Medtronic PM (my second one). I may need back surgery someday for a condition. Does anyone know how this would work with a PM? I am wondering if they would use a cat scan in this case to avoid an MRI? Anyon....thanks...Bill

Back surgery

Hi Bill,
I had really severe back probs just after the pacemaker was put it in 2005. I was told I couldn't have an MRI so they booked me for a mylogram instead. Dye into the the spinal cord then xrayed to see what was going on.
I believe some of the newer PMs can allow MRI's. Hoping to get one next time I need a new one.
Good luck, welcome here, there is a lot of wonderful people and loads of useful information.
cheers,
Lizzie

MRI

Hi Bill, In April I had my first PM installed at the age of 57. Due to my many spinal surgeries they installed the MRI compliant Medtronics. Yesterday I finally had my first MRI done with the PM. It took the hospital a few weeks to get certified in the procedure as they had never done it before. Yup, I was the guinea pig...they adjusted the settings on my PM and put it in MRI mode. The MRI was fine. After they ran a quick test and put the settings back as they were. There were some relieved radiologists in the room....lol It was a bit stressful for sure....

Take care,
John
