Hi, I hope this encourages anyone having pacemaker replacement surgery. I'm on my third pacemaker, first was implanted in 1991. Replacement in 2004. I had my second pacemaker replacement surgery outpatient on 2/21/12. I had an appointment with my surgeon on 2/27/12. He was at a conference, but I saw a pacemaker nurse/tech/specialist. She tested the new one and said it would last about ten years. She took off the bandage, which was gauze held in place with clear tape. I'm healing up nicely, some bruising but nothing abnormal. Incision held together with steri-strips. She said I can shower tonight, I can't wait. I've been taking sponge baths. First few showers should be with a gentle flow of water & tepid. When the steri-strips get wet they will loosen and probably come off on their own. I still have to be careful with my left arm, no raising it above my head or carrying anything over ten pounds, but I should be back to all my activities in another week. I'm either very lucky or very healthy in spite of my heart problems. Hope this helps someone.
