risks of AV node ablation

I have AFib. I have been on Multaq and it did not work when I exercised. I am anticipating with dread that I will be advised to have a AV node ablation. I know that sometimes the ventricle does not react well after that and then there is nothing one can do. Does anyone know the risks? I already have a pacemaker.

AV Node Ablation

Tough call and only you and the Doctor can figure out what's best. I had my AV Node totally ablated in May of 2007. Have been 100 % dependent and an ICD since then. Thursday I get my 1st. replacement. Totally understand the dread feeling as I am nervous even though it should be a lot easier then previous ordeals. The good news is I am a "high normal responder and the ablation along with the CRT-D pacemaker setup raised my EF from 15% to 50%. I really had no choice and things worked out as best they could. I am very active and although hills are a struggle I do pretty much what I want, climbing, biking, aerobics etc. Good Luck and best wishes.

I had an AV node ablation in late

2000 with a PM put in. Had to have repeat of AV node ablation in early 2001 as EP said my Afib was "over riding" the PM. Well, 2nd one worked & except for Coumadin don't take any meds & on the 3rd PM now. My EF runs betwen 55-65% so I feel good. I do everything I want but only limits are my arthritis & age.
I am sure I was told the risks but as I felt so bad with the Afib before I am happy with my decision. PM takes some adjustment of settings but once I got those done right for me I am able to exercise 1/2 hr 5 days/wk. Hope you have as good a results.

I have had my pacer since 2005. At first it ruled my life. It took some time to calm down and make the mental adjustment. I had trouble sleeping and I worried a lot about pulling wires. Now I just live my life as I wish.
