Hi all,
I'm a bit worried about my upcoming check up, brief history avr dec 2007 followed by biventricular pacing dec 2011 due to low ejection fraction and lbbb.
Last month I was diagnosed with a 48mm ascending aortic aneurysm - my question is when they do my check up and fiddle with settings is it going to put pressure on my aneurysm ?

If it's a rep doing the test make sure that they are aware. Reps won't have access to the comprehensive medical history on you and could be making textbook tweaks even if there are contraindications. If it's a office employed-tech they probably are already aware as they have access to your EMR charts.
I'd still bring it up just in case.

I have a well tuned pacer. I hardly know I have it. I am 76 year old, hike and camp alone in the desert. I have more energy than I have had in a long time. The only problem is my wife wants to have a knob installed so she can turn the pacer down.
Will Not Disturb Aneurysm

Hi Rufus,
Of course I'm no dr, but from what I know about aneurysms and pacemakers the answer to your question is absolutely no. They will put on 2 or three electrodes like those used for EKGs. After getting some readings from them they will put a magnet that weighs about 2 or 4 oz. on top of your PM and take some more readings. During the time the magnet is in place if it has been determined previously that some changes in your PM settings need to be made that will be done then. All this takes about 15 to 20 minutes and at no time is any pressure applied to your chest or abdomen.
So I have to say you have nothing to be concerned about them disturbing the aneurysm during your PM checkup.
Good luck,
Smitty
