malfunction

Can anyone tell me what would be the typical sign of a pacemaker malfunction.

No typical thing

Pacemakers are incredibly reliable: problems are more likely to arise from an issue with a lead, or a need for different programming.

Are you experiencing symptoms that make you ask the question?

Thank you very much for the information. Luckily I am not experiencing any problems--I just wondered what to look out for.
Again, my thanks.

Malfunction

Had my PM implanted 5 years ago, it was a dual lead model. About 24 months ago the lower lead went bad, and I was informed that it was very seldom used, and as long as the upper one was functioning normally, not to worry. Everything was going great until August. I had an in-home chcek in August, and I guess when my cardio Assistant saw the results; I was told to come in, althought I didn't have an appointment for 30 days. After visiting her I was instructed to contact the doctor that does implatation. Made an appointment for September 30th. After the checkup in the office by the medtronic specalist, the doctor came in and informed me that he was preparing some emergency orders for hospital admittance.Since this doctor is pretty cool, I thought he was joking, because we do that during the visits. Anyway he showed me the EKG for my heart, and it actually was stopping and the PM would not work properly. Anyway I was admitted to the hospital on September 30th, and a new PM implanted on October 1st. So I went from having a PM on the left side, to having a new one on the right side. New leads for the old PM could not be changed, so a new one was needed. Long story, but when the heart quit, I never knew it, and that had been going on since August. Please do the phone checks. Sorry for being sooo long winded.
