I went to see my neurologist this morning and we discussed a few tests she wants to do. We're pretty sure my issues all related back to Autonomic Dysfunction. I was diagnosed with POTS after my pm was implanted but we think there could be something else going on causing my TIA's.
She wants to do an angiogram into my brain. I have an allergic reaction to IV dye and the steroid to treat the reaction. Go figure. But I told her I can handle the reaction if she wants to go ahead with the test to check for any possible blockages. The way I look at it, if I have to be overheated and have my body turn purple long enough for them to possibly prevent a major stroke, it's worth it.
She has to call UC Hospital to see if anyone will do it knowing my reactions. Am I nuts?
Part 2 of my crazy...
MRI- I do NOT have a MRI friendly pm. However, she says they have in a few cases and with some special protocol done one on a patient with a pm. She said a cardio has to be present with a crash cart to make sure you don't code. I guess they turn off the device and then run you through? I'm not sure. She's calling to find out if/what the protocol is and if a doctor there would do it.
Code/Crash cart say whhaatt?? Am I nuts?
Third thing we talked about was going to Vanderbilt University. She said they are the leading specialist in the field of Autonomic Dysfunction. So I think that sounds like a great place to get referred to.
I had 4 tia's (mini strokes) within 7 months. So the chances of me having a BIG BOY scares the ever loving shit out of me and it VERY possible. They have said that many tia's mean my body is telling me something is coming. I'm 28 and want to live to see 80.
Has anyone ever heard of any of this under these circumstances? I mean it seems the risk with both tests is very high if anyone is even willing to perform them. Thoughts? Opinions?
