av node ablation and pacemaker

I had a pacemaker fitted followed by AV node ablation just over a year ago .
This weekend I have been having dizzy spells, so I have been checking my pulse rate and found that I have been missing heartbeats similar to when I suffered from permanent AF for the four years previous.
Any one out there had similar problems.

AV Node Ablation w/CRT-P

by Many Blessings - 2013-04-27 08:04:09

Hi Big G,

I too, had a CRT-PM with an AV Node ablation a year ago. I've had bouts of dizzy spells from my PM, but all of them were from my settings being wrong, not missing beats. I have missing beats as well, but those have been there since birth, and never given me any dizziness. I also have chronic A-fib (since 1987), and I also tolerate that well, and never experienced any dizzy spells. As you know, A-fib does not go away after a PM, even with an AV Node ablation, so you still have it too, right? Could it be getting worse and giving you trouble?

Everyone is different. I know some people are very sensitive to any type of change in their heart rate and/or rhythm. I have had so many issues since birth (I'm 52) that I think my body just accepts them as normal. Could your body be sensitive to that and it's making you dizzy as a side effect?

Or, could it be something totally different? Are you having any other medical issues, heart or otherwise? Have you changed dosages or started any new medications, vitamins, herbs, or anything else?

Have you been around anything new (chemicals, cleaners, perfumes, etc.) that may be causing it? Are you having any trouble with your sinuses or ears? Could you have allergies? I was exposed to a home gas leak 5-6 months ago, and had some very weird side effects, dizziness being one of them. Could it be you're being exposed to something you're sensitive to?

I'd check with your cardiologist, just in case it is your PM. They can check out your PM to see if anything has changed. They can also check to see if you're have any weird arrhythmias that could be causing it.

I hate to even guess whether or not it's your PM or something else. I'd call your doctor to see if you can get in and get things checked out. Better safe then sorry when you're not feeling well.

I was having some other issues a while back, and went to get my PM checked. What they found was, the PM is doing it's job, it's my heart itself that's getting worse. Have you had a full cardiac check up lately to see how your heart is doing?

I know others will comment here too, on what they've experienced. Hopefully, one of us can come up with an answer to help you out. My advice is still call your doctor. :)

Good luck, and let us know what it ends up being.

av node ablation and pacemaker

Hi Tammy
Thanks for your info and comments.
I went to my A & E this morning on the advice of the pacemaker clinic.
I was checked out and given the ok on my general health, they then sent me to the PM clinic who checked me out and said every thing was working perfect.
So I don't really know what happened to me over the weekend, they said I was probably having some eptopic heart beats clashing with my own, so everything looks ok and I am feeling a lot better now.
Thanks again for replying.
Kind Regards George (Big G)

Just because you have a device doesn't mean you are damaged goods and can't do anything worthwhile and have to lie down and die. In fact, you're better and stronger. You're bionic!
