Round Two....

....Hi all...some may remember that a few days ago I had a super string of referrals because of my concern about my 'Box' having shifted towards my armpit...and this is two whole years after my..'Bad Dream' of an implant..as in ..4 hours plus.

I saw Dr Sandilands at Glenfield, Leicester ( UK ) on Friday and he wants to go in and dig the little beast out and replant it a bit more over to the centre..good news is that Dr S..( Smashing Guy..also a Triathlete) wants to do the deed in 2 to 3 weeks from now.
His concern is that it looks like it might ' break out'..look away if you are eating'..with attendant infection risks

Bring It On !!...I've got my Bactroban to stick up my nose and the Stellicept to wash with...its like visiting a strange old familiar place !!

Have others here on PMC had experiences of replants after a relatively short time

More good news is that I went from 30% 2 years ago down to 5% at the last download..Dr S is now talking about further reduction in support.. even a switch off short term test period

Best wishes to all in PMC....Tat Man

Replant Tomorrow!!

Hi Tat Man, Tell you tomorrow night as I will have my almost 4 year PM moved from near armpit to back under muscle. Don't know what happened but it moved & swoll up with right edge feels like a saw gnawing into muscle & nerves. By the way, they won't use the old little "beast" as they will replace it with a new one, my 5th in 29 years. Also right chest having used up left chest 4 years ago.
I"m going in to out-patient in the morning & Dr. promised to get me out by evening.

I'll try to give you a left handed update !!
Donb

Note !! I got put off for 2 weeks also, better than 1 year with my 3rd PM when it finally eroded.

Thought I'd tell you...I just had a brand new replacement and with it I got the new antibiotic mesh pocket. My new Icd is about an inch wider and longer but much thinner and the battery is supposed to last 10 years. The pocket lasts as long and helps all stay in place supposedly. They do sew an Icd -it has a place on the top left corner (I don't know about a pacemaker). I also got a new communicator that wakes up every AM at 3:00 and finds me and checks the last 24 hr.s to see if I've had any ectopy and reports to Boston Scientific who in turn reports to my Dr.. My leads (wires) were fine so I didn't have that to contend with. Best of luck to you...Be waiting to hear all about your experience and I hope it goes as well for you as it did for me. Good Luck!!! May I add my best wishes to Kates .As she has already said, you are good at this stuff. If PMs move about, then why are they not regularly sutured in ?

I reckon Frank would recommend an eyelet at each corner and number 8 screws along with brown wall plugs.

Cyanoacrylate Super glue would work too....I once read that in Vietnam, Medics in helicopters would regularly glue the guys up so they could be flown back to the M.A.S.H. units without too many bits dropping off.

S**t....now thats an image to stop the likes of me from complaining !!

Best wishes , Don...Tattoo Man

Hi Tattoo Man!!

Hope all goes well with the next procedure, you've got a terrific attititude.

This might sound like a dumb question, but do you think it has something to do with your marathon running?

I hope the doctor really sutures it in this time, so you have many, many years of running ahead of you.

Note to Donb.: Good luck tomorrow.

Hi Tattoo Man

Well, I just got home this afternoon, Tuesday. As a precaution they put me on IV Antibiotic (Vancocin) to try to avoid infection. So they kept me overnight. I talked at length with my Medtronic rep as he changed my (out of the box) settings as it has the sleep mode & also new features in the algorhymn supposed to help with Atrial-Fib.

As my surgeon had to do some pocket restoration & cleanup of my under muscle site it's taking it's toll on the Tylenol/withCodein to keep the pain level down. But, so far it feels pretty good. Now, if I cool it with activity maybe I should do OK. OH, the anesthetic again was really great as it was a 2 hour project & I was out in 2 seconds and had no other side effects. This was #5 PM since August 1992.
Ya & I don't even want to think about the costs over the years as it involved 8 surgeries, all PM related.

So, 5' - 10" above the ground is still better than 6' underground as the saying goes!!

You know you're wired when...
