Hi... this is my first post. I had a Pacemaker implanted on 11-14-2011. I really have had no issues. However, I have had a fever come and go now for the last 27 days. The highest the fever has been is is about 100.6. It is not constant, but does occur every single day. I have no other symptoms. I had a routine check up with my cardiologist. I told him of the fever and he said, "I do not like a fever with hardware". He has sent me to an infectious disease doc. I see her tomorrow.
Anyone else with a pacemaker ever have a fever this long?? and was it related to your pacemaker?
thank you all so very much....

No one needs an infection.

Anyone who has had Cardiac work done should take extra care regarding infections. For a long time after my new heart valve, even if I was only going to see the Dental Hygenist, I would have to take a whopping 3mg dose of Amoxcillin an hour before. This requirement has been relaxed, but wherever I go and especially abroad, I always take 3mg Amoxicillin. I knew someone with very toxic blood on my ward that he got after a Wisdom Tooth went septic.
Look after those little pearlies !
kimmie-korn...go and see your Doc, he doesnt want problems any more than you do.
Good luck.

Staph

I ended up with a staph infection right at the pacemaker site following the surgery. Was in the hospital for 2 weeks trying to clear it up. Very scary even for the doctors! After another pacemaker surgery I got a staph infection on my face. If you are having a fever do not ignore it! Very serious stuff.

I'm 43 and have had my pacemaker four weeks today. I'm looking forward to living another 50 years and this marvelous device inside me will help me do that.
