So far it has been 7 weeks and I have sudden, needle pains in my arm and chest. Doc ignores it. I can't. Has this happened to others? Am I doing something I shouldn't? I don't understand why this is such a mystery.

New Pacemaker & :Problems
by SMITTY - 2011-11-14 10:11:40
Hello,
I guess it is obvious that your Dr does not have a pacemaker. Otherwise he would have never made the comment "it would take 2 weeks to feel great." It is true that some people do feel great after two weeks but more than half of them take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months.
I will mention one thing. When you got your PM it was probably implanted and started with the factory settings that may have been altered some. For many people those settings are fine, but for some they need to be tweaked. I don't know that yours' need tweaking, but if you think it is time you should be feeling better, then it is time to let the Dr know you need some improvement in your PM operation. Just remember, unless that Dr hears from to otherwise, he will think everything is fine. You know, out of sight out of mind. so if you need to put his number on speed dial, do it and don't hesitate to make him as miserable as you are.
If all else fails, write him a letter outlining your problems and send a copy to the hospital administrator. The Dr will not like that but sometimes it takes something like that to get one to move off dead center.
Good luck,
Smitty

i think what you feel is normal but its not always advised to
think its normal while it isnt. better get it checked. It took 7 weeks after post PM implant for things to be fine..i recall arm pain that lasted for six weeks, without being able to move it at all..

Doctor ignoring you......
by Pookie - 2011-11-14 02:11:17
Hi:)
Yes, it's only been 7 weeks since your surgery BUT your doctor should not be ignoring you. If you cannot get he/she to at least listen to your concerns, then I think its time for a 2nd opinion.
Yes, it takes months for things inside to heal and I'm just guessing but your needle pains could be nerve damage trying to heal. I really don't think its anything you're doing.
If this continues and is really bothersome and/or causes you stress, then go back to your doctor and ask he/she for an ultrasound or an Xray - something that could show them that your leads are where they are supposed to be....if he/she is not willing to do that after all this time, that is when I'd be looking for another doctor.
It's sometimes difficult, but you really gotta speak up for yourself - I learned the hard way:( Here's an idea: if you don't feel like actually speaking to your doctor, then fax them a letter!!!!!!!!??????? I've done that too in the past and it worked - a few times. Worth a try at least.
Take care,
Pookie
