Scar Redness/Dizzyness

Hi All,

I've had my PM now for just over 4 weeks and am yet to have a good day since the operation... I'm currently away on holiday at the moment and over the past few days I haven't felt very well at all. I'm having some dizzy spells but my main concern at the moment is that I'm having a LOT of pain in what feels like my heart.. It started after I pushed myself off of the bed - I felt something in my shoulder where the PM is click and since then the PM scar has become reddened (looks more like stretch marks than feverish) and I've had a lot of stabbing pains in my chest.. I'm not sleeping very well either and at the moment I can barely walk 10 metres without becoming dizzy and my legs are like jelly and don't feel capable of holding me up.. I am not feverish though and my temperature is normal.

I'm going to go to the Dr's over here tomorrow but with it being in quite a remote part of the Philippines I'm not sure if they'll have the relevant equipment to test me properly.

Any similar experiences or advice? I'm about to cut my 3 week holiday short by 2 weeks as at the moment I've been confined to a bed in warm room for the past 3 days.

Pain & Dizziness

I am so sorry to hear this is happening to you, let alone while on vacation. I really hope that the Phillipine Doctor can help you, if not, I would suggest you do cut your vacation short and get home to get proper treatment, but that's just my opinion.

If you are dizzy and your legs feel like jello are are you going to enjoy the rest of your vacation? I can't even venture a guess what has happened other than perhaps some how you dislodged a lead, but that would account for the pain you are experiencing.

The red stretch marks have been mentioned on here before, but I can't remember what they meant. I'm thinking although your temperature is normal, you may still have a bit of an infection - again, only a guess.

I truly hope you get the help you need, and it would be heart breaking to have to cut your trip short, but your health comes first.

Good luck, take care of yourself and please keep us posted......ok?

Thanks for your reply Pookie,

I came home early from holiday as I couldn't cope out there. Straight to Accident & Emergency where I had an ECG (which was fine) and also had an xray which showed the wires were where they should be. I had a week at home relaxing and felt a bit better but then the rate response started going crazy... One morning I was sat at my desk and the rate response kicked in to speed my heart up and kept doing it every 5 minutes constantly for 3 hours... Everytime I yawned or turned on my side when in bed it went off again and I started to feel ill from it again. I went to the PM clinic who could see that it was going off literally hundreds of times per week. To remedy it they've removed all features from the PM, turned off the rate response and just kept it so that it will only make sure that my HR will hit 60 as a minimum. Aside from Jaw ache I felt much better for about a day and a half until I went for a 15 minute walk - afterwards I felt dizzy and very weak. Since then I've felt incredibly weak with my arms and legs in particular feeling very weak, my face is numb and the jaw ache still remains... Hopefully will be able to go into the clinic soon for a check but I'm starting to get incredibly depressed with the whole situation - especially as prior to the tilt test and PM insertion I'd been feeling really good and back to normal for about 8 months... At the minute I just can't see things getting better.

The experience of having a couple of lengths of wire fed into your heart muscle and an electronic 'box' tucked under the skin is not an insignificant event, but you will survive.
