Hi all. Just found this website and have enjoyed reading all of your comments, so thought I'd share my experience with you.
I had my first siemans pacemaker implanted in 1984 age 39- I still have that very same one! It was done at kings college, London. I was originally told it would need a new battery in approx 7-10 yrs.. Although I have to have check ups every 3 months it's still going strong. I'm booked to have a 24 hour recording tomorrow and hopefully all will be well.

Yay, another old timer! How amazing to still have the same device. I got my first one in 1993 but I'm on my 4th now.

Very interesting!! Happy to have you aboard. I must say Siemans is a good name. Don't know the relation to Siemans-Halske company in Europe who also manufactured communication equipment. I maintained microwave communications at HAC in Heidelberg, Germany in 1953.
As I'm on my 4th PM in almost 20 years, I am now sporting a St. Jude. I have read others comment of having PMs' for many years but usually not getting regular check ups. Only goes to show that we can have long life of our batteries if our PM doesn't have all the bells & whistles which I'm sure yours didn't have. Even the shelf-life of your PMs' battery must have been extended because of it's enviroment as it loved it's happy home, LOL!!! donb

I wasn't really self-conscious about it. I didn't even know I had one until around six or seven years old. I just thought I had a rock in my side.
