Wisdom teeth :(

Hey guys went to the oral surgeon today and I need all four wisdom teeth out... I need to get them out on feb 14th only thing that has me considered is he wants to do it in an or due to my pm? And I have a cyst/tumor on one of my wisdom that needs to be tested .. Has anyone gone through this? Is it normal to have it in the or just because of the pacemaker? And the doctor is charging me 500 because I need to have it in the or because of the pacemaker I don't understand but as long as I'm sleeping its fine with me I guess :(

I was told if I wanted anything stronger than novacaine, it had to be in the hospital. I got some funny looks when I went through the pre-op tests!

Why Not an OR?

Stephanie: W/ the probems you have had, I'd welcome an OR. You will be under the care of a real anesthesiologist the whole time. It's the best way for you to go. W/ that tumor/cyst, the dentist may have problems & you want to be prepared.

A BIG question or TWO: Is the dentist an ORAL SURGEON? If not, why not? Ask if he will be using any ELECTROCAUTERY. The mouth is awfully close to your PM, & electrocautery (EC) can mess up a PM BADLY if tended by an Anesthesiologist NOT saavy about PM's & EC! I mean BAD BAD!

You want to vet your sleep Dr. about HIS/HER experience w/ PM's & EC. You cannot be a shrinking violet about this issue.

A lifetime ago, back before you were even a gleam in your parents' eyes, I had mine done all 4 at once, using sedation. It is the way to go. Wife likewise had hers done the same way, as did our two daughters & one son. Really worth the extra money for getting it all over at once. The misery/discomfort lasts aout 5-6 days for all 4, as opposed to 5-6 days 4 times when you get them done singly.

Go for it - we are right behind you, cheering you on.

I wonder...

Before I had a pacer and I had 2 and 2 with the wisdome teeth and it was miserable. My son had all four done under IV Sedation in the doctors office and was sick as a dog after words my daughter had 5 removed in one whack with a pill so strong she was like spagetti and very funny and novacaine. I think it depends on the docors skills because my daughter was back to work the next day with hers and my son was laid up for a week. I know we need to have extra care taken with antibiotics but I would rather be aware of what they are doing and be able to tell them if I feel something going awry. Anything I can be awake for I would be. I resent the fact that I have to be asleep during heart surgery. Now that is one I would really like to be in on. I wouldn't be stiiting here with lymphedema in my left arm if I had bee awake to see the doctor actually repair the innominate veiw he knicked and tied off but said he repaired. it was found to be tied off in the next surgery BTW.

..................................Dental Issues must be taken extremely seriously whenever there is an attendant heart condition. It is a fact that certain viruses make a bee-line to heart valves. As ANGRYSPARROW would say Get Knowledge

Donb it is an oral surgeon and I will ask about that ... My heart doctor I believe is sending a Medtronic rep with me in the or with me to make sure everything goes as planned ... When you here OR it brings back to many bad memories but I rather be there than in an doctors office where I can't get the help I need if god forbid anything were to happen.. I just want to get it over with already! I have been through so much as you all know and read you would think this is a piece of cake I'm so scared!! Hopefully everything will be okay and it won't be that bad and I'm asleep through it.. I have been awake for far too many surgeries I need a good "sleep" haha thank you as always for responding!
