my daughter

Hi folks, I just wondered if anyone else has experienced anything the same as my daughter. My daughter is 11 years old.  In February of this year she had her 3rd pacemaker fitted for complete heart block, it’s a single chamber pacemaker she has.

After the operation her recovery was slow; she gets breathless more and is really tired.  4 weeks after the new pacemaker she collapsed at school with a seizure.  Since then she has symptoms of partial seizures many times a day.  The Neurologist says it could be cardiac but cardiologists say its brain related.  Her ecgs come back clear and now the neurologist wants to make sure its definitely not heart related.

At a pacemaker check they noticed her neck pulsating and think she has pacemaker syndrome.  He said it wouldn’t cause the partial seizures symptoms. Has anyone else experienced anything else like this?  Thanks for any info anyone can give me :-)

Welcome to the Pacemaker group.

I'm sorry I don't have an answer for you, but I'm certain that between the Neurologist and the Cardiologist and whatever tests they decide to run, they will find the answer to your daughter's problem.

Keep checking back to this post as other members might have some ideas.

Take care,
Pookie

maybe a lead problem?

Are the EP and cardiologist entirely sure that it is not her pm? My daughter who is also 11 has had 3 pacemakers since she was seven, the shifts were due to microdislodgement of the ventricular lead which was not noticeable on X-ray. She also suffered seizures and collapsed many times until we found out what was wrong. Perhaps a stupid question, but have you checked her pulse during these periods of partial seizures? You should be able to notice if the pulse is below the minimum pulse set by the pacemaker. My daughter´s pulse was 35-40 and should have been at least 65 as set by the pm. Just our experience and input :)
