I just had my second pacemaker put in after having the first for eleven yrs. Had the implant done as an out patient, thought everything was ok. Now I just got out of the hospital because I had an infection (bacterial) .well my site is still red & oozing.I don’t have a fever or chills. I was sent home with minocycline to be taken 2 times a day. My concern is the oozing & why?

Hello,
Am a 46 year old nurse who is two months post pacemaker insert, agree with Mitch's comment except for... yes the clear ooze is a better sign, but, any ooze from a wound can indicate poor healing over all. Keep an eye on it, again for further swelling, discharge, fever and of course ooze!

Sometimes a device must be tuned a few times before it is right. My cardiologist said it is like fine tuning a car.
what color is the drainage?

If the drainage is clear it shouldn't be a concern, but if there is puss or it is yellow you should be concerned. The drainage is due to the recent infection but if it is clear the antibiotics are doing their job.
I am an 38 year old RN who just had a pacer placed on Monday so this pacer thing is all new to me but I'm familiar with signs of infection and what you're looking for. I hope this helps
