Greetings everyone.
I had a PM check up today with a new tech & he totally confused me & scared me. I got my PM last year in April 2011. In the past few weeks I have felt my heart jumping, running, etc.
I have afib. I have had 2 ablations and now the PM. The afib had gotten so much better until the about 2 weeks ago.
I saw the NP and he set me up for the PM reading. The PM tech told me that I had over 240 AF episodes that lasted a few seconds to a few minutes since July. He said that the PM could be causing some of this. Is this true?
He told me he "tuned up" the PM and that he made some adjustment.
I wanted him to explain what was going on and he said "tech stuff that I would not understand." I told him that the more information I had the better I felt about what was going on with my PM. He told me that everything was fine and the he would see me in a year.
I don't know what to do now. Any suggestions ????
Thank you for you help. Bobbie

A Year?

I agree with Cecil. You have the right to know everything that is going on. Do call his superior or your cardiologist/EP doc(s) and get the information you asked for right away. And, if I were you, I'd ask for a new PM tech while you're at it.
It's SO important that you have a PM tech that you're comfortable with. They should always make sure to answer all of your questions and put your mind at ease.
PS: Is it normal to wait a year for another PM check? My schedule is every three months. What is normal?
Another slant on it

I have another slant on this situation. My EP doesn't want the techs saying anything to the patients. I mean anything. I asked what % I was being paced. The tech said I'm not allowed to tell you per EP. However, he pointed to his interragation form so I could read it. He said I'd have to ask EP. I asked EP and his reply was "you're paced just enough - what you need."
I'm looking for a new EP.
It just might be the dr. that's controlling what info the tech can share.
Believe me, I don't think this is right at all. It is our very life they are messing with. I'm not sure I've ever heard of anyone living without a beating heart.
I wish you the best.
Dealing with tech

Just keep in mind that you are the customer and he is supposed to be providing a service.
Call the clinic and let them know you are not satisfied with the service you received and ask for an appointment with a different tech.
As an electronic instructor I can tell you this. If a tech can't explain in human terms what he is finding with the measurements then HE, not you are the one who doesn't understand the technology.
