Those of you who have had an infection in your pacemaker some time after the incision was all healed, can you share what your symptoms were? I have been having unusually frequent pain recently around the pacemaker. The technician interrogated the device and said there's nothing wrong with the pacemaker, so my cardiologist ordered some blood cultures done.

Infection this late?

I've had my pm since 2010, so I'm not currently taking antibiotics, and my incision is completely closed. I'm going to assume the discharge and odors would not apply in my situation? I started feeling the pain last week Thursday, so I guess it's not an infection, or else I'd be dead by now?

Kermi...If there's an infection there's going to be extreme redness and discharge from the incision site. There will also be some odd odors too. Frequent pain can be felt and is normal depending on how long ago the pacer was placed, if there's tightening of the muscles or tissues as they heal, etc. Your dr is correct in taking blood cultures...they'll tell the tale...are you still taking antibiotics?
