Approved Models & Leads
I have a combined PM/ICD, originally implanted in the US in Jan 2000. It was replaced in May 2005 for a new battery. At that time there was a major class action legal case starting because various "Guidant" units were not functioning properly.
I was informed that my new unit, even though it had a serial number on the list of defective units, was OK, and it has been since then. Guidant was bought out by Boston Scientific/Medtronic since then.
I am about to have a cardioversion carried out, where the heart is stopped and restarted, because of continuous fibrillation in the upper chamber, then probably in the next few weeks have the device replaced again for low battery.
I am trying to find out, in light of the legal judgements against the makers, which models of the combined PM/ICD's made by Medtronic are now approved for use in order to request one as the replacement and similarly for the Leads which have also had problems.
I realise B-S/Medtronic are sponsors of this site so may not get a reliable response if previous court rulings are believed. Anyone have current Nov/2010 lists of approved units ?
Thanks
