Hi all
I'm still on a "high" after getting my new job yesterday!
So, this other news may be a bit of a shock to all. It certainly is to me!
On Thursday, the day of my job interview, I received a copy of the clinic letter my EP has sent to my GP....following my clinic appt with him on 13th May. Here in the UK they send the patient a copy of all clinic letters.
Fortunately I got the letter after my interview!
I had an echo scan in Feb. In this clinic letter my EP has written that the echo scan showed I have "mild diastolic dysfunction".
I had no idea what this meant as my EP had not told me about it in my clinic appt BUT he was reading the echo report on the computer for quite some time during my appt.
So I e-mailed the Head of Pacing on Thursday, as she had been sent a copy of this clinic letter too. I asked if she could please tell me what mild diastolic dysfunction is.
I have not had a reply from her yet. It may be that she'll need to check with my EP if she can tell me. Clearly he did not want to tell me about this in my clinic appt. Or she may not have had a chance to reply yet.
So.....I've done a bit of research online & actually am quite shocked to find that mild diastolic dysfunction is not really good news!
I am focusing on the positive news about my new job & trying not to think about what this diastolic dysfunction means.....until I can get some clarification from the Head of Pacing.
But...does anyone else have mild diastolic dysfunction? Does anyone know what it means?
I'm SO happy about my job, I really hope this will not turn out to be bad news.
I'll keep you posted.....
Best wishes
Janey

Sorry I can't help with your results other than to say hang on to the fact they are saying it is mild.
Best wishes

I'm fine

Hi. Thank you for your replies.
The way I deal with things is to find out as much as I can about whatever it is, so I understand it, then I can deal with it. My cardiac team know that I like to know the full details about things, then I can understand what is going on.
So I'm going to wait for the Head of Pacing to get back to me & explain what "mild diastolic dysfunction" means.
I know that if she thinks any further action needs to be taken, she will sort it out.
I'm focusing on the fact that my EP & the Head of Pacing have got me well enough to be able to return to work.....& it has been quite a journey to get to this point.
I'm fine.....I just want to know what it means so I can understand it. Who knows, it may have been put in the letter by mistake. Previously all letters have been 100% accurate as to what was discussed in the clinic appt. It is just odd that this time there is something in there that was not discussed.
I'm very busy sorting things out for my new job now. I've got to see the HR staff on Tuesday with lots of documents & paperwork + do some more courses online.....so no time to think about much else right now.
And I am enjoying the UK sunshine too! Lovely being able to get so much washing dry outside today.
From a sunny UK.....bye for now
Best wishes

Mostly the copies of these letters are a good thing but sometimes they can be a bit scary.
The last one l saw was 2yrs ago after l had an X-Ray to check my leads & although they were fine it showed l had (can't remember what they called it) but it meant l had an enlarged heart. So l had a quick look on the internet as to what was what & it seems pretty normal in someone with the amount of heart conditions l have. Now then there were pages & pages on that subject but whats the point of scaring yourself with "horror stories"? If my cardio thought it worth mentioning it l am sure he would have, your cardios seem 100 times better than mine, so l really wouldn't worry yourself.
Angry Sparrow has her ways of dealing with her worries, my way is to "lock" all the bad stuff away in my head (Tatman & IAN MC are there somewhere) & try & forget about them, it works for me, not saying it will for you but put all the good stuff in the front of your mind & the negatives where they belong right at the back.
Reading this back it sounds daft but its helped me through 30yrs of poor health. My dad always used to say its a waste of time & energy worrying, if its going to happen it will happen & worrying will just weaken your ability to cope with it :-)
Everything is going well for you at the moment dont let a "medical term" taint things.
Enjoy the sun

Calm down!

Hi Janey,
I totally agree with Angrysparrow. It's getting a bit extreme lately with your up and down posts. Maybe you don't need to write a post whenever there is some medical news. You don't need to share every little detail with everyone, especially not when it's something that's not definite. I know you come here for reassurance that everything will be ok or for some comforting words from others. But if you re-read all your messages from the last couple of weeks, you'll probably notice that it's really getting a bit extreme.
Sometimes it's better to sit back and relax, and think it over before you panic. And when your EP or cardio didn't say anything about that "mild diastolic function", then probably just because it's nothing to worry about. "Mild" in an echo can always mean that the next person doing an echo will not even see it. Also, those letters are written with lots of preprinted sentences, and sometimes they simply forget to delete something that doesn't fit.
You know that I only mean well with you.
Best wishes

P.S. And congratulations on getting the job!

Hi Inga
Great to hear from you.....& I do totally agree with you! I thought last night how I haven't posted on here in ages & suddenly I seem to be posting a lot. It reminded me of way back in 2009-2010, when I first joined here, & I used to post a lot (you probably remember that well).
I realised last night that I probably should not have posted this message on here....but too late, it was done!
Then.....having just logged on & read your reply....we are both thinking along the same lines!
I totally agree with you, I don't need to post everything on here. I have overdone it in the last few weeks & I can only apologise.....sometimes you just don't notice how much you are posting!
I feel ok about the "mild diastolic dysfunction" now, I'll just wait & see what happens.
I'm nice & calm again today. I'm busy sorting out things for my new job. That's my focus now.....looking forward to starting that in a few weeks (& then I'll have no time to post on here LOL).
I know you mean well Inga, I really appreciate your words......& I do agree with you. Sometimes I just need reminding!
Hope you are keeping well.....& thanks for keeping in touch, it's always nice to hear from you.
Best wishes

Found out what it is!

Hi Bobbie
Thank you for your reply. The Head of Pacing did get back to me yesterday & explained that I do indeed have mild diastolic dysfunction. Your description is very similar to what she said to me. She said I have stiff ventricles & it causes a problem with blood flow from the atria to ventricles (diastolic phase of the heart beat). She said mine is only mild & they are not concerned at this stage....which is good news. I'm seeing my EP again in 6 months (+ another PM check) but for now am busy sorting out things for my new job & am looking forward to helping the patients again at the hospital where I am going to be working. Should start the job in about 4-6 weeks.
Best wishes
