Bras

Had surgery in November 09 and still find it extremely uncomfortable to wear a bra - the straps really push on the pacemaker. Does anyone know a brand that sits far enough away on the chest with straps that are very wide and not elastic that won't push on the pacemaker. It's coming into the summer season and going bra less really looks tacky - can't find anything comfortable. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Sports bras

Have you tried those? I've purchased baby washcloths and used them as pads under my bra strap until my scarred area became less sensitive. The fabric is ultra soft, and folded they make a great cushion.
Recently I've become a fan of the halter tops with the built in support. Works for me since I'm a step up from a training bra. LOL. Seriously though, the straps on halters are spaghetti thin so I found them to be less irritating. An added bonus is that they serve as a undershirt which you must tuck in while wearing girlie stretch jeans- not unless you enjoy sharing your "plumber's butt" and muffin top with the world.

You know a guy created those new jeans for us women. No way would a woman create pants which caused you to show your crack every time you sat down. LOL...

Your scar irritation and pain should ease up over time. If it doesn't, I would mention it to your doctor.

Good luck, and happy days in the sun,

I wanted to mention them as well, but I couldn't think of their name.

Have you tried the ones made for tank tops? The straps on them are usually placed differently. Another solutions some of our members have tried is getting shoulder pads- most sewing stores still carry them- and fold them in half to make a pad to go over the strap. Good luck!

When I had my first PM I invested in some really pretty and nice strapless bras. In fact I had a "fitter" help me get the perfect style to help me adjust to having some new issues to deal with. I am now on my 2nd PM and I went once again to get new strapless pretty bras to wear. My new pacemaker is in a new location and it's larger than the old one. So shopping for new bras was indicated. It was fun and I had a great time shopping. I never go braless, why would I want to miss out on buying and wearing all the awesome lingerie! he he

Good luck to you, hope it all works out for you,

My issue as well

I am a newbie and when I left the hospital my doc told me I could go back to work. (Surgery on Thursday, out of hospital Friday and return to work on Monday) I have large breasts and could not even handle the pressure from the strap, not to mention the strap going right over the incision. I had an appointment with my family physician and she told me no way was I to go back to work that soon. She told me my cardiologist is a man (no offense to all the wonderful men on this site!) and has no idea what us women with larger breasts go through post PM surgery. Thank God for her!! I am back at work today with a Platex sport bra that seems to be working. The strap goes over to the side and does not cross the incision. It also hooks in the back so no trying to pull it over my head. It really does not give that much support - more of a smashing of the breasts instead of lifting and separating! LOL Good excuse to go shopping and try out some new bras! I heard Kohl's is having a sale (LOL) - and you know they practically pay you to shop there (if you have one by where you live) That is where I got mine. Hope things start getting better for you real soon.

Hi There,

I felt fortunate to have this all done in the winter and covering up helped. I think it was Dix that mentioned to me the French strap. I just started to wear softer straps and I can go with just a tank. I think they also have the special ones that have only one strap but have the underwires for dresses with only one shoulder. Cut the sucker off if you can hold up with only one strap for now. I know you can cushion it and i also found that to be a pain even when sewn in. I can sew fairly well too. I still can't wear the stiff lace straps yet - just very stretchy ones. If you do sew, you can also change your straps to very wide silk like straps. The package of binding works if it is wide enough - I found that to be the best. Good Luck,
Sugar/Patty

Bra Cushions

I was having trouble with bra straps until I found Silcone Bra Strap Pads. Usually they are used on your shoulder but I found if I put it right over my incision it works wonderful. I bought Maidenform silicone bra strap pads but they are some also available from other manufacturers. Best thing I could find and they work!!!!
Good luck!
