Guys I have posted about the above before on the forum, I am looking for any information on the above condition.
I have been attending the PM Clinic since having my PM implanted in early 2010, the problem that I have is that I am still experiencing dizzy spells. The Pm tech has check & changed my setting, to no avail.
I had a further meeting today with the Pm tech and he has now suggested that I may have the wrong PM for my condition! What he did mention was that there is a St Jude PM that has an additional function that boosts you HR by approx 30 beats when you get to your lower limits, thus preventing low BP.
Just wondering if anyone has the above condition or further information on the PM mentioned.
Thanks
Joe

Hi,
Not offended by your reply, I can confirm that the dizzy spells are the same as pre PM. I also get the the light headiness & poor skin colour due to low BP.
Thanks

Rate Drop Response
by ElectricFrank - 2011-12-14 11:12:58
There is a function in the Medtronic pacers call Rate Drop Response that does just what you mentioned for the St Jude. It senses a rapid drop in HR and responds by pacing at a higher rate. There are several settings associated with it that determine how it detects the drop and how it responds. The manual mentions CSH as one of the conditions it treats.
So the tech either isn't aware of this or wants to promote another expensive procedure. At any rate the answer for you is simply an adjustment of the existing pacer rather than a different make. My suggestion is to ask for a programming session by a Medtronics rep who would understand the situation.
By the way this information can be found in the Adapta/Versia/Sensia Pacemaker Reference Guide on page 164.

Many thanks for your reply, I will take this information to the Tech at the next meeting.
The Reference guide that you mentioned in your reply, is this something that I could download?
Thanks
Joe
It's a bit tricky
by ElectricFrank - 2011-12-15 11:12:15
It's in an area of the Medtronics web site for professionals. I poked my way around til I found it. It's also about 300 pages of technical language. I spent hours after getting my first Kappa pacemaker studying it together with other info on the web. I use it together with my own ECG to understand what is happening. It will be interesting to see if your tech has the manual. Maybe has it in the programmer so he can bring it up on the screen.

Once again thank you, This issue that I'm having in not related to cost's, I received my PM from the NHS in the UK, believe me, the UK NHS won't/don't spend money if they don't have to.
Wishing you & All my fellow Pacemaker Club memberer's a Happy Christmas & Best Wishes for 2012.

Carotid sinus hypersensitivity (CSH)

Hi THartz39
Nothing to report I'm afraid, Went to see my Cardiologist recently, who sent me for a stress test & echocardiogram.
The good news for me was that he has confirmed that my heart is strong, I am certain that my issue is related to the carotid area of my neck. This was the area that highlighted my problems at the early stages.
Went back to see my GP to see if she could suggest anything else that could be causing my problems.
I am still getting these episodes after longer/ harder runs!!
If I get anymore information I will send you a PM message.
Cheers
Joe

Hi Joe
I just read the comments you posted in 2011. Whow! I have the same problem,ie; have a pacemaker and I still have the events where I get dizzy [near snycopy] , hotflashes, then frreezing cold, followed by extreme tiredness.
What has happened scince your last post? Do you know of medical centers in the USA that would understand and be able to treat this situation? Did you get your PM adjusted.
Hope you see this posting

It made a HUGE difference in my life. Once I got it, I was finally able to run, and ride my bike long distances.

Joe, not to insult you're intelligence but have you had any inner ear issues that could be causing the dizzy spells? I was diagnosed with Vertigo about 10 years ago, and I get dizzy from time to time but it isn't the same dizziness as what low heart rates causes. If that makes sense. My dizzy spells feel like the room is spinning, unlike the light headiness we felt when our HR dropped. I hope this helps.
