Toprol XL

Is anyone else's pharmacy claiming dificulty in obtaining generic Toprol XL (metoprolol).
I was due for a refill, and let's just say I'm thankful that my pacemaker kept my heart beating......I about died at the cost.
When I questioned the triple digit increase, I was told that there is a shortage of generic so they had to give me the "real" thing. (as if my body knows the difference between them, but my pocketbook sure does now)
Goodness gracious!
They said that they were having a hard time getting 100mg tablets.
I asked them, "So if I took 8 - 25mg pills, would that be cheaper?"
They "claimed" that the 25mg tabs were getting difficult to obtain for that reason.
Jeez.
Something's fishy, I think.
Anything for a buck these days, I guess.

That's so frustrating.

I went to the pharmacy today to have my Toprol refilled. My pharmacist informed me that he was unable to order it because there was a shortage due to the recent recall.
He said he should have something available by the time I need my next refill.
Sheesh...I sure hope so!

toprol xl comment

I was told by my pharmacist last month that there was a national shortage of the metoprolol xl...my son is on 200 mg daily and I'm on 100 mg daily. The pharmacist sent requests to our physicians to see if they could substitute metoprolol (not xl) and take it twice daily instead of once. My son is 17 and his cardiologist said no...so he's taking Toprol XL 200 mg daily...our co-pay went from $10/month to $45/month on his. My cardiologist said that they could substitute metoprolol 50 mg twice daily for me...My co-pay went from $10/month to $3/month...so it is much cheaper. But, I can't remember to take it twice a day...so I'm having tons of arrythmia's.
Pharmacist also said that the 50's and 100's were the mg in shortest supply. I didn't realize there had been a recall...anyone know details as to why?

My mom gets hers from one of those companies that mails it to you in three months supply. She hasn't had a problem getting it, as far as I know. Want me to ask her the name?
