Watch the monitor

I always watch the monitor to verify unusual sensations. Since they consider PVC's to be benign the monitor doesn't flag them. The rhythm trace though will show them.
A PVC is actually a weak beat followed by an extra heavy one. Depending on the timing the heavy one can give the burning or painful effect you mention. It seems worse than it is because we are understandably sensitive about things of the heart (in many ways).

Ask to get a few things checked

Paulb I remember having similar sensations and there were three outcomes from investigations. The first was that I kept having problems with the leads being displaced the day after surgery which resulted in stray current etc.
The second was the settings of the pacemaker I got an immediate improvment when the turned a few things off such as rate response, adaptive, adjusted ampitude and sensitivity setting and automatic self tests.
The third was that because my pm is a medronic ADDR01 it has a facility called managed ventricular pacing (mpv). This, I think basically means that the bottom chamber only receives a signal when necessary and when this happens I am very sensetive to it and it feels a little like what you describe.
Ask them to wire you up to the programmer and have your settings check to get some assuarance.

I live an extremely normal life now and my device does NOT hinder me in any way.

Sometimes when I have had heavy beats I've been told that the monitors don't pick them up unless they're sustained. Not that the monitors don't "see" them, it's just if it doesn't last for more than 3 actual beats it's "nothing"...even though we all know what we're feeling is something.
Try to get some rest, and if this keeps happening just make sure that you discuss it with all the doctors in the morning, and keep calling a nurse when it's happening.
