Pharmacist Advice

If you have any doubts but don't want to bother the doc (or wait on hold forever to reach him/her), you can ask a pharmacist. If you go to the drug counter or drug store when things aren't real busy, they usually are glad to give you a free consultation. You can ask them about potential drug interactions, etc. They know all about drugs (more than docs in some cases) and are a good resource. Of course, they can only tell you if the drugs you're taking might possibly interact with each other--mention the pacemaker, too. And they can advise you if you really ought to talk to the doctor.

I take all of those + more

on the advice of my doc. 'Course we are all different but not sure what PM has to do with it. May depend on what your cardiac problem si. Be interesting to see what others are doing.

Are you taking any cardiac meds?

The only problem I know of is some of the supplements can interact with meds like blood thinners. Has nothing to do with the pacemaker though.

The thing on calling the doc about everything you do or take is mainly boiler plate to provide legal cover.

Vitamins & meds

by tomh140 - 2010-01-16 06:01:53

I take centrum silver, fish oil and co q 10 along with my reg meds (crestor, niaspan, diovan, spironolactone and 81mg aspirin). Both my family and heart dr are ok with these but everyone is different and what affects one person may not affect another. You need to do your own research and when you try something new or different you need to monitor it for a while. Go to www.pharmasurveyor.com - if you list your meds and supplements there it gives you possible interactions of the meds but keep in mind they can affect some people differently

The only problem I've had

was when taking vitamin D3. I was having strange palpitations but didn't make the connection until I heard a doctor tell my elderly aunt that D3 causes palps in some people. Bingo! I quit taking it & they went away. I too take fish oil, lutein & low dose aspirin without problems.
