Pacemaker Guy,

Don't be concerned. Your pacemaker will do whatever is has been programmed to do and whatever that programing is, it is not going to be harmful. Maybe uncomfortable, but not likely to be harmful,

Contact the doctor that implanted the pacemaker or if the GP referred you to that doctor, start with the GP if you need too. I think you should contact the hospital only as a last resort, as that will probably just delay your getting to see a doctor. Of course if your problem gets bad, head straight to the Emergency Room and let them get a doctor for you.

Good luck,

Smitty

welcome!

Welcome to our little club! There are other teens here, I hope they'll say hi to you soon. Hospital is a last resort, and a GP won't be able to make adjustments.Do you have a cardiologist or EP? That's who I would call. It may just be that it'll take some time to get used to the feeling, or your settings may need adjusted.

If you have any questions about healing and living with this thing, please don't be shy! We've all been there.

You are too young as a teen to be "bothered" by the PM, and I am sure way to busy doing what teens do to worry over a PM. Yes, you will forget you have a PM.

The comments on this page from Smitty & TraceyE. are two of the people who have really helped me out with their experience and expertise with all my questions in the PM Club If you can not reach your cardiologist, EP, or their contact person when they are unavailable, my PM rep said to feel free to call the toll free phone number for my PM company. My PM happens to be Boston Scientific & the PM rep gave me a lil' "booklet" which had some info. in it, PLUS, a couple of toll free numbers to call them with questions, problems, concerns, etc. Make that call now.

Go have fun. Pretty soon you will even "forget" the PM is there. Life is full of wonderful surprises for the youth. A lot of teenagers are in the PM Club, come on members & comment/answer ThePaceMakerGuy. This PM Club has all the answers, Carolyn65 in TEXAS ( :

hello newbee i got my pacemaker on 2/21/09, i was 32 i was afraid at first too. worried what was going to happen afterwards and was everything ok. i felt a little funny a few days after the procedure as far as extra beats and so forth, it wasn't a certain thing that i was doing it just kind of happened. a couple of weeks later it kind of eased off and i felt alot better not the extra beats anymore. once you go to the doc and they set your pm it will be fine, i think it may be just trying to find its way if it has'nt been set yet. it will be ok, stay with this site, it helped me alot and it will for you too im sure.

Not young but was scared as hell!

Hi there!

You will be so tuned in to everything that your heart is doing at the moment that you will notice every little blip. This is totally normal, and after a while it will just fade into insignificance.

It's sort of taken me a year to come to terms with it all, but really dont think about it any more. We are so much better off than people who just have a heart, because we've got a failsafe device controlling ours.

Once you have had a few interrogations and realise that things are ok I am sure you will be fine.

I'm right there with you

I've had my pm for 8 weeks and I am totally in tune with every thump and bump, skip etc....I am on high alert. I'm on the point where I take anti-anxiety meds to get through. I take them to sleep and when I am alone with my daughter as that scares the bleep out of me.

There have been days where I haven't thought about it....moments when I forget it's there.

I think everyone is right....you will get there...and I will too. Just take time. Try yoga or an ipod to forget...I have...and it works..some of the time.

Best of luck-
Wendy

Hey Newbie,

Im Brittny... I had my pacemaker installed 12.5.07 at the age of 21. Was super scary and I had to get use to the new things I was feeling with my body. Like you I could also feel the heart beat on the left side. I called my doctor right away and they informed me that I was just feeling the pacemaker being triggered.... I can still feel it till this day but only when Im resting or have just finished some kind of exerting activity. .. It is something you will get use to and some people forget about it totally and will never feel it again once they are healed and start getting on with their lives.... I am almost 2 year in and I use to feel it every day, Now I feel it like maybe once a week :-)

Rest up and get use to ur new buddy, cause you now have a new bestfriend :-) I am a little dorky and I named mine Pacer, he even has a star in the sky lol.... and his name has recently been modified by my boyfriend to Pacer The Speed Racer.

Make life with your new device fun... Tell your friends if the dont watch it your gonna shock em :-) I once told an elderly lady that when she asked me why I went and got a pacemaker, like I picked it up at the store or something lol.... So i told her I got it so I could go around and zap people for the rest of my life lol... But good luck... If u ever have any questions please ask... No matter how weird or goofy they may sound, im sure I have asked worse

Britt <3
