Hi there,

I have a 5 year old daughter who recently had a PM implanted. ( abdomen ). Does anyone know if it is safe to play soccer?

If her doctor has cleared her for activity, soccer should be fine! Some doctors are more conservative than others but most agree tackle football and karate are a bad idea because the odds of taking a direct hit to the pm are strong, most others are ok.

There is a company that makes shirts with a protective area to cover the pm for sports. I just woke up and my brain hasn't kicked in yet so I can't remember the name but the owner pops in here from time to time. Having her wear protection may give you piece of mind.

Hi Emmy,
My name is Sharon Spinnler. My daughter Zoie has had a pm since she was three, now almost 11. I have developed a product called PaceGuard. Please check out my website. Although it doesn"t say it on my website( we are learning as we are growing and changing) but I am able to have my manufacturer make a custom abdominal shirt for your daughter. I have made several already. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Play for Life!

As for my pacemaker (almost 7 years old) I like to think of it in the terms of the old Timex commercial - takes a licking and keeps on ticking.
