Cuba Anyone?

Hi everyone! Hope you are all well. I have been reading your helpful posts for the last couple of months and I thank you all for sharing your experiences. My best friend had an ICD implanted in April, and I am trying to educate myself in order to better understand, help, and support him. My question is about travel. For those of us who risk no legal repercussions by travelling to the beautiful island of Cuba, I was wondering if anyone on this message board is aware of how safe it is to travel to this country, while being implanted with an American device such as an ICD or a pacemaker. Should something go wrong while visiting Cuba, are Cuban doctors trained to treat complications arising from ICD or pacemaker devices, considering these are American products? Are Cuban hospitals equipped to handle such medical emergencies?

Cuba has a pretty advanced healthcare system from my knowledge. Pacemaker patients should be just fine. Your friend should keep his pacemaker i.d. card on him while traveling and know how to manoeuver through airport security. :)

And actually ended up having dinner with a Vascular Surgeon!!! (It was the Japanese Restaurant at the resort - where you sit with 3 other couples).
Put it this way... I was never worried about my PM while there.
I DID get additional medical insurance (which I would do going to ANY other Country) . Even with my PM, it wasn't that expensive.

Enjoy...!
