Had a slight delay in the surgery due the the patient before me had some complications. As for me, the worst thing about it was I was starving by the time I went to the OR. As you know, nothing to eat or dring past midnight, and I expected to be in the OR at 9:30. . . had to wait until 4:30 pm.
Surgery went very well, doctors and nurses were all very nice. When I woke up, it seemed like there was 20 people in the room. All of them talking and cleaning everything up. Doc said that due to my age (38) and great overall health he expected it to go well, and it did.
He did mention that he had to go in a little deepr than normal, so I might be more swollen or have more pain than the typical patient.
The meds they gave me for pain were pretty powerful. Due to those, the anesthesia and my hunger, I was in pretty bad shape. I went in to the bathroom afterwards and ended up falling!!! Luckily, I fell straight down and not forward. Very lucky indeed. I scared the nurses pretty badly, so they tagged me as a "fall risk" and told me I was not able to get up to do anything without them.
That was last night at about 9 pm. Have not been upright since. So far, had breakfast and lunch.THe Medtronic rep came in to check things out about 2 hours ago. Said it was all looking great and he ran some tests on me with his computer. (pretty amazing). The Doc also came to check on me earlier today, and he was more concerned with my fall than he was about the procedure. Thankfully, I did not grab anything or reach out with my left arm when I passed out and fell. . . but my butt hurt and I bonked my head (LOL).
Feel great now except for the dizziness due the the medicine. Breathing better than ever and I cant wait to see how my new heart/ICD combo responds when I can walk, run and do all the things I used to do. My BP was actually pretty low, or they would have dischsrged me by now it was 78 over 51. They took it again and got 91 over 55. Have to wait another hour to get 2 straight readings over 90 and then I'm out of here!
Thanks to all for your support. I'll try to post a few more times during my recovery.
It's official: I AM IRONMAN!!!!
