Horseback Riding

I was told by the Medtronics call in line that to ride on a rollercoaster was a big time "NO". Anyone had a similar response or issues with this? Also I want to go horseback riding and wonder if the jolts from a full out gallop is too much bumping for the pacer area?

Again thanks and much appreciated for the time to answer.

Horseback Riding

Hello Ranman,

In addition to what Tracey said, I cannot see how horse back riding could effect your pacemaker UNLESS you have the rate response activated. The RR would probably interpret any jarring you got from a galloping horse as an increase in your physical activity and increase your heat rate accordingly.

Of course not everyone (me for example) has their RR activated so you might want to ask your Dr. abut yours before taking a fast horse ride.

I have full out heart failure but if I can get my wife to saddle one of the horses up for me I still ride. The RR used to kick in but I recently had it turned to high so it does not any longer. Enjoy the ride...

Just ride!!!

I have a pm and I am not going to let it rule my life! Even riding Shaq Daddy(my bronc) just gives me a whole new look at living,I mean living! If you can clean your house why can't you ride your loves? Remember this is coming from a country boy(56) with a love to live.Be careful but have a life too.I refuse to give up living to die, God is your riding companion, ride in peace.

I was on a horse earlier this week. I didn't gallop but it was a rocky trail at high altitude and I was fine.

Quite a few members here still ride coasters. Don't do it if your pm is less than a year old. You have to avoid the new ones with magnetic brakes but the traditional ones are generally ok. It's a cya world so Medtronics will be very conservative in what they tell you is ok. It's up to you how closely you want to follow their instructions. I'd ask the dr also, then make your own decision what's right for you.

Me, I hate coasters - I use the pm as an excuse so the kids don't drag me on something I don't wanna go on :o)

All I can tell you is to call the Pacemaker manufacturer and have a chat. Only then will you know what you can and can't do.

I personally am going to look up cowboycraig the next time I am in the Southwest because I took up horseback riding after I got my pacemaker! I would love nothing more than to have a nice ride with a fellow pacer!

Blessings, Pacergirl
